Look i just bought an s25, it has like 7 years of support, i hope the world fixes itself by then and i can get a proper 6 inch phone without sacrificing too much. Am i overly optimistic, yes, but look what else can you do nowadays.

Wish it was ranked choice voting. For me the list is: removable battery, expandable storage, ir blaster, headphone jack. I think repairablity is the most important and i never use the headphone jack but do use ir sometimes so thats the only reason its last. On phones with oled screens notification light is a software feature and fm requires the headphone jack.
Why do people not realize? Apple doesnt have to be competitive. It just locks everyone inside their ecosystem and now those people will spend 2000$ on a folding slab every year instead of 1000$ on a slab that doesnt fold.
I mean depends on the context, in the specific case which i was thinking of it is signal but usually its noise. I have mainly worked with ac and dc signal coupling so thats why both sre signals for me when i think if it.
Well youre not far off. They are used to filter ac, not convert it. They act as low-pass filters which means if you have a setup which is a 100khz low-pass filter it means it only lets through frequencies that are under 100khz. There are of course more accurate but complicated ways of explaining this but that is out of scope for this comment. Also nothing is perfect in the real world but you can calculate how much of the signal it lets through.
Well by attenuate it a bit you mean they pretty much filter ac out if you have the right capacitance and resistance values as capacitors act like low pass filters.
Lol turns out elon has no fucking idea about how llms work
I had a similar experience but when i installed lutris everything worked so in total it only took like 20 mins to get everything up and running. Tho i do have a huge bias because i started using linux first(more than 10 years ago) and only started playing pc games a few months ago. Also if its a proper game without 20 launchers its really easy to get working, usually works outa the box.
And peformance. It runs well on proton but just generally the performance is shit both on windows and linux. The recent update did improve on it tho.
450 usd/euros for the switch is not the problem. 90 euros for a fucking game or 80 for a software download is.
“Okay so you want “actual linux and open source” AND it also needs to work on more than 1% of the phones?” Is this ironic or did you actually just tell me an argument that ive first seen in a meme? Why cant you have a modern phone that also has linux - because of the stupid corporations. Also same with sd cards. If you want a modern, high end phone with an sd card it just doesnt exist. You shouldnt have to compromise but capitalism forces you because at this point there are like 5 companies that make phones and all of them benefit from you suffering. If qualcomm offered proper support, phones could have linux support but they dont.
Android does the bare minimum to be called source available which isnt the same as open source and also its only the core of android that is. Its literally like taking linux, slapping on a bunch of propeitery stuff onto it and then telling people that you cant contribute to it and youre only gonna use an old, highly modified version of linux actually. Also the whole application ecosystem that you have on it needs your stupid spyware to run properly. As for linux i dont think desktop linux is buggy. Its way more usable than windows for example which literally falls to pieces if you look wrong at it. I have 3 old classmates who switched because windows just kept breaking. Your problems with audio means you probably used a non standard setup which i admit can cause breakages theres no doubt in that. And finally chrome having a memory leak; how is that related to linux?
Because it works on like 1% of phones? Im good with tech but not at the point where i could port something like that.
This is like giving a bandaid to someone who just broke their fucking femur. I want actual linux and open source on my phone not a container that runs debian.
Yeah apps should not prevent you from running them in enviroments they dont want to be run in. A law like this would fix stupid banking apps and other things as well.
Cant you just defed with them?
The lemmy servers could also provide how much headroom they have for extra users and the selection wouldn be weighed based on that so that smaller servers wont be overloaded and larger servers get enough users. They could implement some of this into the lemmy api itself.
I was hoping so bad that it would come but it never came… we need a proper open source smartphone but there is so many variables in it sadly. Though with the recent developments in mobile linux and using a translation layer for android apps maybe something is possible. The problem is something being open source isnt enough to penetrate the tech space, it has to be better than the alternatives, which with phones means it has to either be ridiculously powerfull or extremely cheap, which are both hard to achive in such a saturated space. Even linux is only popular because it is actually better than the alternatives.
Why is it so inactive? I made an account and there are barely any posts or activity.
I mean lemmy is pretty fucking neat, i love it here, no need to fix anything.
