It does feel counterintuitive but it kinda makes sense since it’s probably a small dev team.
The third party OS is being dogfooded and its devs probably use it on a daily basis, making minor improvements, it probably has different people working on a port for their own device, etc.
For a company that’s selling products, their time is split between fixing issues in the current OS, and building the next version of the OS for new phones
I’d heard about it as a secure, pro privacy ROM but never used it since it’s not available on my current device. But after seeing their attitude on some forums, it honestly put me right off ever wanting to try Graphene OS.

It does often feel like as soon as a significant hurdle is overcome, the industry just makes another one.
Hopefully SteamOS/Steam on Linux gets enough traction to force publishers to reconsider.
D+ dropped support for my tablet since the Android version is too old, but I just ran Firefox in desktop mode and that worked. I don’t know whether it made a difference that it’s a tablet vs phone though
Still got my phone from 2020, I really like the phone but the software is creaking, even the custom ROM I moved to is now discontinued and no Lineage available.
I looked at porting something myself but it is … not trivial to say the least.
Just feels frustrating that the phone still works fine but is gradually losing functionality and I can’t update it. Also ngl I really miss having contactless payments. I’ve tried all the fixes I can find online with no success.

I especially hate when you’re waiting to cross and people slow down to a stop and then wave you across, but there was no-one behind them.
You could have just carried on at the same speed and we’d both have got on with our day sooner.

I deleted the partition again first, then when I got to the installer, it had created a new 50GB partition and mounted /var/crash and /var/log which can’t be unmounted (tried force unmount and all that jazz)
I recently tried this for the first time for my grandad on an old dying laptop of his which was struggling to run at any speed.
During the install it had already messed with the hard drive partitions in order to run the live environment, which is a big no-no for me.
The whole point of the live environment is it shouldn’t change the system until you try to install!
It also meant I no longer had a free partition to install to anymore so I couldn’t even get through the installer since I also couldn’t resize etc. because the partition was in use.
Been using Debian/Ubuntu based Linux for about 20 years and never seen this issue until Pop! OS

I think that’ll only really start to happen once you start getting more of the general population on here.
Reddit always had a reputation for being dominated by techy people, that is significantly more so the case here.
Signing up for Lemmy, even knowing where to start is a bigger leap than it is over there. Personally I’m hoping third party apps will be able to help with that by offering some kind of setup wizard with easy options of suggested instances to join.
