No. Every time FOSS comes up on Lemmy, FOSS adherents remind me why I’d never dip my toe in that mess.
I use some open source, but I also pay to support it, so I’m not true FOSS. See: Home Assistant. I contribute to the support at times, and I’m familiar with the frustrations - and the need to be consistently cordial. And thick skinned.

If AI gets good at manipulating or helping us to be happier, less anxious or whatever, what keeps it from being skilled enough to do more subversive things?
Fwiw: other than insults and a mod’s implied threat… The conversation looked like it had potential and that both of you were making relevanct, fact-based points.
Issue was that there was a low key combativeness throughout and I’m not sure why that was necessary. I see that a lot online, but I think I see it more here than anywhere else.

Having said all the above. I slip into combative too. Almost always have regrets later, but it’s super easy to do.
I see this going only a few directions:
Meta will be okay making money off lemmy indirectly for a while. Then, if they grow, they’ll want more than a toehold.
When it’s Facebook, trust that greed and power are the goals.
They don’t take risks.
Quibble: Meta took a huge write off because their metaverse didn’t get the reception they hoped.
I think they take risks, just calculated ones. And sometimes… A founders ambition.

Why is the notion that the instance is going under something lemmings keep bringing up? Yes… I understand the model. But it is fully funded - or was. Why are people acting like the instance is about to fail?
Should we start rumors that the instance is about the fail? Or… are recent facts useful, here?

I was going a different route. You’ve only policed the topic in a specific direction (that I’ve seen).
You’re not obligated (and it would look Quixotic) to police every comment. But you sure took on a handful.
I haven’t seen that the mods care. I’ve seen that you do as do some others, but what I see is discussion branching from different elements of the original submission. Like what happens on threaded discussion boards.
Lemmy is for discussion, those will sometimes wind around in a stream of (group) consciousness way. I understand some optics issues with bringing up the app, but it was in the original submission. People on both “sides” took the mention of the app and commented completely divorced from the state aim of the post. While those that mentioned the app and were on topic - those you policed.
If the mods care to force narrow conversation, that’s up to them.

Entitled to nothing. Toxic by acting like they are entitled and now a slew of other people are toxic about a FOSS dev.
