I think you’d be surprised, try picking up rust for some advent of code challenges. If you know Java Streams and C/C++ lower level programming all that you’re missing is some pattern matching.

My old laptop got a new life after switching to minimalist linux instead of windows. So much longer battery time. Extended lifetime by years.

Problem is that selfhosting makes it significantly harder to be anonymous when everyone can see your IP with a trivial lookup. Or I guess you could rent a VPS instead of running it locally.
