The parameters for VNS from the article: “All participants received stimulation at equivalent parameters, consisting of 0.5 s trains of 0.8 mA 100 μs biphasic pulses at 30 Hz, delivered every 6 s during in-office therapy and homework sessions. This stimulation paradigm was based on preclinical optimization studies [26–29]. The delivery of VNS every 6 s ensures that stimulation occurs within seconds of the relevant portions of each PE session, a key determinant in the enhancement of fear extinction [27].”

taVNS is a non-invasive method to stimulate the vagus nerve via electrical stimulation applied to the branch of the vagus nerve it that comes to the skin surface on the Cymba Concha region of the Auricle (the outer part of the ear). This method could be used in conjunction with Prolonged Exposure Therapy, and would be be non-invasive, which in my mind would be a significant advantage.

  • Recent advances is water battle technology include a device, essentially a loose sponge wrapped in lycra, which can be lobbed at one’s opponent. Then it can be ‘recharged’ by squeezing is submerged in a bucket of water; several of these refill buckets can be placed around the battle area. Their re-charge capacity makes them superior to single use water balloons.
