I find it hilarious that most people in this thread are complaining about being called a “something vegan”, like I can understand not being happy with the current AI trend, but it seems like the word “vegan” is what makes everyone ticks, it’s NOT an insult, the “normal” vegan are very happy to be called like that, because what it refers too is something that they agree and identify with. If you agree and identify yourself with what those journalist are calling “AI vegans”, the name doesn’t matter, embrace it, call yourself that to easily express what you believe about AI.

Nobody ever reads articles, everybody likes to get angry at headlines, which they wrongly interpret the way it best tickles their rage.

Regarding the ruling, I agree with you that it’s a good thing, in my opinion it makes a lot of sense to allow fair use in this case

These softwares use your pc’s network connections to send data to the servers which then checks whether you paid a license or not. When they can’t use your internet connection, they also add personal information to any file you generate with the softwares such that if you send the file to someone else who has a license they will unknowingly rat on you through their connection.

Why would they ? I was that kid and I still upvoted his comment, I don’t use downvote as a disagree/punish button, I only use it for agressive/uninteresting comment. I think we should upvote any comment that create interesting discussion, even if we disagree with the core message.

Also I don’t think it works as an analogy, the kid reminding the teacher about homework does it because he likes school, and learning, he does it for himself and everybody else, he never imagine other kids would not like it. This guy doesn’t do this for himself or others, he does this out of spite of others, to punish people, he doesn’t gain anything.
