Yeah I guess there’s no accounting for the power of neophobia.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Like, these companies probably have some number of government contracts and those contracts give latitude to make some interesting demands.

I don’t actually know but I imagine it’s all voluntary. It seems like kind of an endless tail chase to constantly limit anything that could feasible be used to commit a crime. Actual counterfeiting with any success requires some pretty specialized shit. Honestly if this printer could be configured to meet those specifics them more power to them. End of the day though I wouldn’t imagine this being the gateway to massive expansions in the counterfeit market.
Just for fun I ran the Mario 3 release price through the Bureau of Labor and Statistics inflation calculator and it came back with $127 today for what 50 bucks was worth in 1990.
I’m not saying $100 for Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 is good and correct but I will say I always find people wanking on about game prices to be a bit short sighted. Gamers are the most spoiled price point consumers on the planet.
Sites like Lemmy and Reddit tend toward the negative because we’ve been told that nothing is perfect so if you can’t find something wrong with something you’re being suckered. Honestly, pretty true in most situations, but I say fuck em.
S2 is great, I think aside from the library situation better pound for pound than a Steam Deck. I’m not really into Mario Kart but for a brief moment playing MKW was a really fresh and fun experience.
But yeah. If you aren’t listening to a real professional critic(not a youtube essayist or independent ‘critic’) or a friend you know pretty well, I wouldn’t take the opinions of anyone too seriously(edit: at least if they’re trying to talk you out of something you enjoy). Especially someplace like Lemmy/Reddit.
Edit: Bananza is my current fav 3D platformer and honestly, the Star Fox 64 remake is legitimately amazing!
