I don’t know the business negotiations of all that. But if you watch the video, Phawx basically uses one single command to lower the wattage on his Windows handheld and instantly triple the expected battery life. The underlying OS clearly supports it. Seems to me like the AMD driver just isn’t detecting that the game has light power needs and so isn’t throttling like it should.
This quick video from The Phawx seems to show that the battery performance difference isn’t actually inherent to Windows, but rather that the GPU drivers don’t throttle down the TDP when they should.
Windows has plenty of other issues but it seems any frustration about this specifically should be pointed at AMD.
Another confirmation that Endeavour is great with Steam. However I did have to follow the Arch wiki to install the correct Mesa drivers on my new PC (Radeon RX 7800 XT), as without those the GPU performance was crap.
Ugh I still run Ubuntu LTS on my living room HTPC, and generally it’s fine. But on the occasion I need to fix something, I swear every seemingly relevant forum post is from 2015 or earlier. It’s maddening.
Yep, I’ve been using the same basic feature on stock Android for years as well, with Magisk and Advanced Charging Controller (ACC).
Still haven’t brought back the 3.5 mm headphone jack? And is that big battery replaceable (i.e. without anything stupid like ungluing it from the delicate touchscreen)?

Huh? That seems normal for any organization that accepts donations. Someone has to coordinate how they track and interface with donors (e.g. mailers, webpage, etc) and how they process the donated funds (cheque, bank transfer, etc). In fact that usually takes a modest team of people to plan and deliver, and one of them has to be in charge, hence the Director.
Note, “gift” is commonly a synonym for donation here.

Oh damn, you’re right. I just tried it with Steam Play turned off and it wouldn’t even launch.
I swear it was already playable via Proton though. I even installed it on Steam Deck just for shits & giggles a couple months ago and it worked, albeit not a great experience on a 7" screen. Still, any improvements are good.

Total War: Shogun 2 is now playable? It runs natively on Linux and doesn’t even need Proton. I guess this is good news if someone has a Windows only copy on DVD or something.

I don’t understand why someone would want a “search-focused” launcher. You mean I have to bring up the on-screen keyboard and type out the name of an app instead of just scrolling & tapping an icon with 1-2 simple motions? Yuck. What am I missing?
Hm, it still looks a bit annoying that you have to go to their website and get Motorola’s blessing via a special unlock key, rather than doing it 100% on your own. But that looks more automated than in the past so maybe that’s an improvement. Thanks.
Those are some positive changes.
Is the battery easily replaceable? Have they stopped making it a pain in the ass to unlock the bootloader? Those are the things that matter for longevity of a device.
Windows 7 Ultimate for me. I still kept it as a boot option on my main PC until about a year ago because I thought I still needed it for a couple windows apps and games.
I tried Win8 at one point and hated the changes. I also tried Win10 and one of those “forced bloody updates” bricked my machine so I said ‘fuck that’ for good.
I’ve dabbled in Linux for 20 years, and run Ubuntu on my living room HTPC for at least a dozen. My main PC runs EndeavourOS now and even gaming has been pretty great.
Ok, glad to be wrong there and more than happy to blame Windows then. I ditched it completely a couple years ago and I’ve been enjoying Linux gaming ever since.
