As opposed to the previous trend of getty greedily monopolising the industry, stealing images that they don’t own copyright for and using their lawyers to mute smaller competitors they steal from? In this case AI is the lesser of two evils. If you don’t hate getty, you simply don’t know enough about them.

I consider this argument irrelevant in 2026. The average “full” distro is pretty much plug and play, Ive done nothing but install Steam on my Fedora install and game extensively.

This was not the case even 5 years ago, which is when “gaming” distros were an ok idea and these distros started. By now, the niche they aimed to serve has been largely closed by legacy distros.

No in the sense of convenience, optimization, out-of-the-box features etc.

Because installing Steam (which bundles proton) is soooo inconvenient…

CachyOS is greatly optimized and truly does increase your FPS compared to other distros (and by quite a lot, like 10-15% on average from what I’ve experienced!)

…which distros and games are you comparing because this is not a universal experience… It strongly depends on the game and personal config, no single distro is better than others fps-wise, as benchmark averages keep proving.

How many use Fedora?

An audio jack is anything but tiny in a mobile phone form factor… Theres just no way to keep it without sacrificing something else.

If waste and efficiency are real concerns you should be against the old headphone jacks. They waste a lot of space and are an entrypoint for water and dust, for redundant functionality that already exists in usbc or lightning

I used to share this opinion but grew out of it tbh.

From an engineering perspective headphone jacks are: a) a huge waste of space for no real functionality as the function is integrated in USB-C or lightning.

b) an unnecessary weak point in water- and dustproofing.

If you need an audio jack, specialised models still have it or a dedicated android audio player (fiio make great ones) will serve you better.

I say this as an audiophile btw.

“Gaming” focussed distros are often a worse choice imo, because they offer zero performance benefit, are bloated in an attempt to bundle drivers out of the box, are harder to troubleshoot because worse documentation, and the preinstalled configs can cause headaches.

“Gaming” distros are cringe, ineffective gimmicks.
