During any solar eclipse there are wide bands where only a partial eclipse is observed. It’s pretty common for people in those bands to not notice that something has changed even with 50% occlusion.

I disagree. People already run tires dangerously bald. We shouldn’t attach further economic disincentives to replacing safety critical components.

My siblings and I tend to go silent and passive when under extreme pain. Having medical professionals question whether the pain is severe enough for intervention has definitely been a problem as a result. For example, my sister was denied pain medication until after the xray showed multiple fractures in her heel. The stereotype of writhing in pain is really only possible for like 3-5/10 for me. If the pain gets worse I go wide eyed and motionless, and if bad enough, I pass out. I’ve had precisely 1 PT who was adept at recognizing that manifestation.
Improving recognition of the variety of ways in which pain can manifest is definitely an area that could use improvement.

Based purely on personal experience, I would conjecture a recent uptick would be from post-covid nuerologic damage and noise canceling headphones are a welcome coping tool.
I have long had more trouble than average with sound discrimination and noise canceling headphones are a godsend for dealing with overly noisy environments.
You are more likely to die from a bus crash. Highways are way more deadly per mile than airlines.
The last time the US had a commercial airline crash with high fatalities was 16 yrs ago. While this crash is appalling, it is irrational to avoid air travel in favor of highway miles.
I know there’s a lot of cynicism about supersonic flights that paints it as a stupid luxury for rich assholes. Prolonged periods of sitting really aggravate back pain for me, but I can handle walking reasonably well. If supersonic flights eventually came within 150% of normal tickets it would open up a lot of travel destinations that are currently inaccessible for me.
Even before tall buildings, trees should put the noise floor above 30 meters.
The size and power consumption of facebook data centers makes me think that the cards industry was more environmentally friendly.

Could vanilla orchids do well as a houseplant? I’m zone 7b/8a so I’ve had success playing around with semi tropical plants, but I don’t have greenhouse space to overwinter frost intolerant plants.

A smart tv without an internet connection is usually close enough to a dumb TV. It’s not like your TV needs regular security updates so leaving it off your home network is fine.
Definitely, any changes natural or anthropogenic would be measured and to great accuracy. I just wanted to point out that the notion of the general public, especially if conditioned to distrust scientists and authorities, not noticing changes isn’t the outlandish part. See global warming denial despite years of record setting temperatures.
