One of the cool things about linux is you can have a 1 of a kind desktop. I dont share my dotfiles because they look like shit and because i like knowing my desktop is uniquely scuffed.
People in free countries dont have data protection so im not at all surprised that people in an occupied territory during a war are being survelied on unencrypted services like txt and call.
This is is so low down on the list of isreal bad things to care about. Strike people based on call information thats fine at least you’re targeting based on some intel.
As for Microsoft storing the data, they are intentionally complicit but what can be done? They’re one of the Largest companies in the world.
Processing 200million hours of audio data is pretty neat though. I’d love to read a write up from the engineers working on that. I Imagine voice to text Arabic is probably pretty bad and you dont want to have to go over that kind of data twice.
I’m new to it as well, but the advice I was given was to find small sub 2gb content thats missing and upload that. It will give you easy ratio then you can watch what you want.
PS is much nicer to write scripts. It has QoL
Yes but thats not relevant. Its like me saying windows users dont use the AUR and then you saying um actually im on windows and I run arch in a VM and use the AUR. Like ok thats still the AUR being used on arch.
Like the topic is AUR malware and someone was like arch users and steamOS users. But steamOS users dont need to be worried or lumped in because they aren’t using the aur unless they’re also using arch through vm or distrobox or whatever.
Am I making sense?
Yeah but thats not really steamOS using the aur.
SteamOS using the aur would be unlocking the root folder, doing a pacman update and then using the AUR which I assume very very few users do.
I only mention this because everytime arch is mentioned steamOS gets dragged up as if its the same thing when they’re worlds apart.
Using the AUR via distrobox can be done on every distro.
Using the arch distro right?
Its anecdotal at best. Its like if someone was saying “we should give kids school lunch so they preform better at school” and then I replied “I didnt have school lunch and I got top my class” you’d think ok that changes nothing.
There is a lot of research to support the idea that adults are less likely to pick up a skill if they weren’t exposed to it as a kid. If you dont grow up working with technology to make things you’re less likely to go down that route as an adult or late teen. Thats a huge disadvantage in today’s age.
SteamOS users dont use the AUR.
Resize your drive so you habe enough space for arch. Then boot into the live USB, partion the empty space into the typical boot/swap/root and then install arch as normal.
Uh ok mate thanks for your life story. Did computers even exist when you were in the 12th grade?
I fail to see how this is at all relevant to kids in the modern age being kept away from technology. Not having technology access today is completely different to 30 years ago.
Even if we pretend your experience is related id say you were a statical outlier. Most people who are not shown how to use technology will not become adept at using it. Thats why we try and introduce kids to a wide range of things in schooling.
The kids with technology are creating things earlier and earlier, recently a 16 year old made a game that took the record from fortnite for most concurrent players 21million. Growing up with access to technology opens them to an entire world of inspiration and I think if its managed by parents its a powerful tool that I’d never want my kids missing.
Who is this person and why should we care about their opinions on this? Not intending this in a mean way, just if theyre like a behaviour scientist It would change how I read the article.
Artificially restricting your child from having a phone only makes them less prepared for the world. Think of all the kids who grew up without a computer and now they have no idea how they work and can’t do basic tasks.
The middleground is a phone locked down with parental controls.
What’s the difference or issue here?
I think they gained root to the python env which they couldn’t do anything with because it was still running in docker inside a VM.
What’s drawing them to Isreal? Is the local talent really that good?
Inside me there are two tech nerds. One is optimistic towards new tech and has the clanka pass. The other is kicking the dominos robot calling it a clanker
Have you tried Beehaw? its defederated from all edgy instances and enforces strict behavior rules. From my experiences its more pleasant than any place on the internet ive seen. But its completely fair if you feel this place is frustrating and stressful to leave.
What are you finding frustrating?
I can understand why parents woulr be wary giving their kids to much access to technology thats why I’m pushing back and saying that going full Luddite returning to a landline is not the answer.
