There’s some good discussion in the issue raised on the repo. The developer says that Play Integrity was provided as an example of how to verify client integrity, but that it wasn’t a hard requirement and updated the readme to reflect that.

What an absolutely terrible article. I read the whole thing and I’m still unclear on what the check is and what it actually applies to and I’m pretty sure the author+GPT is too.

The reddit post (that our author mangled to churn out an article) is pretty clear about it: the age verification app will perform a Play Integrity check to ensure it is an official build on a “supported” OS (whatever that means, my crDroid passes Play Integrity). This doesn’t mean anything for any other apps running on that same system, it only applies to the AV app. It does mean something for the OS, because passing Play Integrity needs some Google services running at root level.

That all assumes you even want or need to run that app in the first place. It’s just a reference app for now, open for member states to adopt into a potential digital AV system. If your country doesn’t have any concrete plans for AV for porn/booze/memes yet, but might in the future, then getting involved in local politics will do a lot more than getting worked up about a github repo.

I also have to laugh when someone takes a very rough estimate (around a hundred miles) and converts it to metric with 4 significant figures (160.9 km). Even 160 is too precise when talking about a distance of 80-120 miles. If the original number has 1 sigfig, the conversion should too, even if that feels way off.

The more obvious choice would be to make everyone go dark, instead of setting up nationwide voice mail to pretend everyone is alive. But maybe this way they can keep everyone’s communications open while also fooling most of these intelligence gathering methods (someone answered, in the right language, mark it as active).

I think there’s a difference between being able to understand and having all the information to understand. Randall has a very wide range of topics that he makes comics on and most readers won’t know enough about every topic to get every joke, even though he does his best to simplify it for a broad audience. That’s the reason ExplainXKCD exists. But his audience is generally nerds, people who like learning new information, which is also what Explain caters to. So it is both true that his audience can (and are willing to) understand and that Explain helps them understand. (I also think that nerds love explaining stuff, so it makes sense that the main fandom website is ExplainXKCD, even if there were no demand for explanations.)

I come there all the time and I have absolutely no interest in knowing who operates it tbh. That information can basically only be used to do harm to nhentai.

California-based rightsholder PCR Distributing, which operates under brands including J18 and JAST USA, initiated action against nHentai last summer, describing the site as a significant threat to its business.

I don’t know them, but JAST sells visual novels and other software (so no hentai) and J18 is a Halland-class destroyer of the Swedish Navy, so maybe they’re being threatened by the amount of KanColle doujins showing the superior physical assets of Japanese warships.

So when I download only some files from a torrent, it’s likely that I can’t seed all of those files to the next person? I have done partial leeches before and left them seeding under the impression that I could at least seed exactly those files if anyone else wanted them. If that’s impossible (or at least unlikely to work because of chunking), then I might download the whole thing next time (or just leave the swarm).

X is under total control of that person. As long as the lemmy source adheres to fediverse principles, this developer can believe whatever they want and run their instance however they want, and no one else has to care. If his beliefs starts affecting the lemmy source, it’s always an option to fork.

If you exclude a branch of the fediverse because of one bad instance, you’re missing the point of the fediverse.
