It’s not this or that. Security comes in layers. So while I would assume that the Jellyfin developers do their best to secure their application, I acknowledge the fact that bugs do exist and that Jellyfin is developed in and for hobbyist contexts, and thus not scrutinised and pentested for vulnerabilities in the way software meant for professional environments would be. Therefore I’ll add an extra layer of security by putting it behind a VPN that only whitelisted clients can access. If a vulnerability is detected, I can be sure it hasn’t already been exploited to compromise my server because we’re all “among friends” there.

This. And for everyone you just can’t figure it out on their own, there’s RustDesk for remote assistance. It, too, can be self-hosted.

the only decent version of Windows
Please stop romanticising Win 10 just because it’s less shitty than 11. There is no decent Windows.
Reminder: Win 10 introduced
Started out on Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon ten years ago. Looked around, got into other distros and DEs, window managers, file systems, bash scripting and server administration. Yet here I am, still on Linux Mint. It just works extremely well for me, never broke down (unless I broke it) and stayed out of my way to let me focus on my actual work.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO GET THAT CAPS LOCK KEY FIXED, MATE!

I can’t see why somebody objecting to TrueNAS flirting with closed source would want to switch to a fully proprietary system like Unraid.

Not if we’re talking Jim Cramer, who is well beyond 70%.

AI can […] be completely wrong. But that happens maybe 10% of the time.
Where are you pulling your numbers from, mate? The figures I’ve seen so far start somewhere >40% and go all the way up to 70%.

Oh no!
Aaaaanyway…

…which is precisely why I’m not on your system. ;)

Good. Enshittify to your heart’s content, until people realise that just sucking a different big tech corp’s tit is not the solution.

Not really. Disney management has drunken the same Koolaid as any other management right now: they believe they can fire large parts of their staff and replace them with “AI”, allowing them to achieve similar or even greater productivity at a fraction of the cost (i.e. whatever fee "open"AI charges). To achieve that, they need to give Sora access to their characters (so it can be trained to produce Disney movies) and invest in the company (as a down payment; money that would be recuperated by eliminating workers from the equation).

So at what point do they ban all new computers
not made domestically?
FTFY. It’s the same thing.
Like others have said, it’s mostly about the DE, with Plasma and GNOME being the front runners. As much as I love it, but steer clear of Cinnamon DE. It’s developed with desktop use in mind, and no fun if you use it through touch.

Fair enough.

Good. Now can we call that cancerous corporation Facebook again?

Duly noted. Will adopt.

Imagine if you pirated a bunch of movies, and then went to the
cinemaactors’ doorstep and bragged about it.
FTFY
Yup. That’s what made me ditch Win 7 long before EOL and switch to Linux. Been here for ten years now. Life’s good. 🌱
