It sucks for those people, but everyone should expect anything they say online to be possibly tied back to them. Secrets and identification information don’t mix. Especially online. The good news is that there is no evidence any of it is real, anyone can lie on the site saying whatever they want, so if doxed someone can just say they were bored and wanted to fit in and see what others were discussing or such. Hopefully for them it doesn’t turn into people getting hurt for talking behind someone’s back like it often does offline.

I wonder how much you could Jerry rig up Wimax for these days. That’s like 30 miles of range. I remember thinking if I was only going within a 15 mile area of my place it would have been cool, but prices 10 years ago immediately made it a no.

Edit: like it sounds dumb, but what prevents someone from picking up a used Wimax base station, putting it as an uplink from their router, then using a Wimax card to receive it? Could even maybe just rig up a small rechargable wifi box, that received the Wimax signal, then rebroadcasts it back out as wifi using your home network name/password. So anywhere near your home the antenna would just pick it up and rebroadcast, maybe just hook it to your cigarette lighter to charge so anytime your in the car it’s on. I assume most people would find it easier/cheaper to just buy a cellular card… haha. But hypothetically, I am curious what would make it not work

Yarp, a gasket, couple clips and adhesive and you can have a fairly user swappable battery as well.

Though I’d prefer a metal bracket surrounding the wood with a slide in and up push onto gasket mechanism, two screws at the bottom to hold in place. You can lose the adhesive and everything would be easily accessible.

And they’ll have something terrible on the back to protect it that doesn’t crack as easily, like plastic or metal.

Joking aside, my brother gave me his old phone awhile back and I used it for awhile, the back was wood. Not sure why more phones didn’t do that. It was light and had no issues with cracking. I suppose it wasn’t as waterproof as phone are now, but I liked it.

Yeah if you still run into an issue for some reason add a virtual monitor in Windows, or “sudo rustdesk --option allow-linux-headless Y” (it’s in the GUI as well) and it should take care of it, but I haven’t had to do that

I remote to a Mint on a laptop with a closed screen, and pop_OS that doesn’t have a screen. (Second one has my jellyfin server). Connecting from my android phone and even my Windows laptop at my last job

Ah, I haven’t tried Apple products. Works with Mint, Android, PopOS, Debian, without any tinkering in my experience. I remote from my phone to my media server/laptop/and other junk when needed.

Lightweight to me just means I can use it in any situation regardless of what shitty or wonderful device they happen to need it on. And it can match all devices they end up needing it on. Say a media player with stremio, or a laptop, desktop etc. I understand what you mean though. Arch from everything I have heard isn’t for beginners so as someone who has used 5 or so different Linux distros, maybe more… Have avoided it because the stigma that people have put around it. Is Fedora Debian based? I am unsure I’ve used it. I suppose I am looking for something with LTS that can be used across a multitude of hardware so I can create a “standardized” image per say, and then just adjust to meet the needs of specific hardware while always allowing them to have basically the same interface so they dont have to learn how to navigate situations differently across devices.

I installed a Linux server on an old laptop, then installed Jellyfin. It’s like a Walmart special from 8 years ago, so no graphics card outside of the integrated graphics. Doesn’t matter. I disabled sleep, and power saving settings on the Wi-Fi. I had a USB external 1tb drive hooked to it. The laptop doesn’t even have support for a 5ghz wifi connection. No issues at all. I can run 2 movies at 1080p in different rooms off the external USB drive without issue. Just go for it. I installed RustDesk on it so wherever I am I can remote to it, turn on the VPN and kick off a torrent for whatever movie someone mentioned while at work or what not. Then when I get home it’s there.

Really wish they’d push the update to all Android OS’s sooner than later
