I actually think it’s a fairly decent compromise (although I prefer Lutris), since Gog is clearly not interested in paying to maintain a Linux port.

It technically is in the US as well, but this is a corrupt, late stage Capitalist shithole, so, no one with power cares.

I started using Reddit in 2008 (kill me). One of the of the defining traits of the site at the time was the fact everything was anonymous. It was considered taboo to expose your Reddit persona to your irl circles. Hell, I still don’t have an email associated with my Reddit account.

It’s been interesting, and a little tragic, to watch that attitude erode over the years and then see Reddit itself encourage the idea of creating a unique identity to cash in.

Lemmy is way more like the original Reddit & I’ll actually admit to using Lemmy, even though no one knows wtf I’m on about.

Hexbear is way worse, imo. Those folks will straight up harass dissenters. Stay away or maybe just stick to your gaming sub if you’re happy there.

When you enter “how to join Lemmy” in search engines one of the first results is this Reddit thread, which explicitly suggests people join Lemmyworld.

In fact, when I point people to Lemmy via Reddit, I use that post also because that suggestion actually makes it way more approachable. I think most people, myself included, are intimidated by multiple servers and feel like they’re “intruding” into private spaces. The size of Lemmyworld might help people feel like it’s more anonymous and a little easier to join as a result, especially since they are being asked to wait for “approval”, which is pretty unusual on the modern Net, let’s be honest.
