At the end of the day, none of that’s legitimate, it’s just an excuse to buy the car you prefer.
Since when is buying what we prefer considered negative? Calling it an excuse seems short-sighted.

If I need remote access, I just log into NPM and I have certain URL’s created for Plex, or Sonarr, Radarr etc. No issues so far.
You could be right about the CPU transcode vs. GPU transcode. It was a long time ago when I setup my Plex but I do recall having performance issues with CPU transcoding. Either way it’s a valid point.
I had to use relay only once at a Hotel and it was decent enough but the TV they had was pretty lame so I couldn’t tell how bad Relay was vs. the TV quality. Either way I got to watch what I wanted without commercials.
Never heard of ATV4K but I’ll check it out. Thanks.
They aren’t charging users to cover their costs to stream your data from your server. It’s to help them with their developper costs. Transcoding is something your server does and it’s only unlocked with Plex Pass so if you don’t have that, you can’t use it anyway. I have only 4k movies so if I want to watch them at any resolution smaller than 4k, I need transcoding which was the primary reason I got the pass. They can also proxy your connection in case you have issues connecting directly so they are somewhat using their own resources for that. They offer a great service at a very low price, much lower than Netflix and it’s much better. Everyone that connects to my plex server love the experience so it’s well worth it for me. If it’s not worth it for you, that’s cool. Use something like JF and then deal with a lack of device support and any other issues that come with JF. I hear it’s a also a great service but I also hear there are more issues with JF than Plex so I’m happy with Plex.
Their default Movies and Live Channels are bad, but that’s not why we’re using Plex right?
$120 is to support the platform and it provides the option to download movies/tv shows locally and allows for Transcoding to name but 2 benefits. It’s also got clients for pretty much every device out there.
If you can’t afford $120 for life then that’s too bad. Move to JF.
Crying about a non-issue isn’t exactly going to change anything is it? Plex is an awesome service or you wouldn’t have been using it.
It’s not getting shittier, they’re just asking for you to pay because you haven’t been paying. If anything, the service is improving. I paid once and never have to pay again and I’m saving a ton by not needing to pay for Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Paramount, AppleTV etc. etc.
Bully lol. Such hyperbole.
I don’t agree. They’re only affecting people who haven’t been paying and it’s an excellent service. They’re even giving you a heads up so you’re not caught offgaurd. It’s not even 9 months of Netflix and it’s valid for lifetime. If you can’t afford it, that’s one thing. If that’s the case move to JF and move on. I find Plex is very much worth the cost.
Just buy the lifetime Plex Pass before the price hike and you’re golden.
1 library and movies are all 4K if newer than 2010. Otherwise it’s 1080p just like TV series.
Dedicated i5 desktop running unRAID, Plex and the Arr’s and I stream using my Chromecast with the Netflix button reprogrammed to launch Plex. No TV, No Streaming services and it’s pure joy.
They’re $265 CAD for each 10TB Western Digital Red Drives and I bought 4. They’re NAS drives and so they’re spinning platters and not solid state but it’s fine for my needs.
I also bought an i5 desktop with a 1TB NVMe drive, 16GB of RAM for $900 CAD that runs at PCIe gen 4x4 and with the unRAID OS installed, it’ll auto-tier between NVMe and the 10TB drives. Works like a hot damn and it’s cheaper and faster than a NAS from QNAP with the Celeron processor.
Arr. Thank ye me matey.
Very cool stats.
I setup my Plex in October and have since downloaded 27TB of Movies and TV.
I’m doing my part!
Do you still need to DeCrypt the DVD with DVD Decryptor?
Lidarr.
Overseerr.
I built an unRAID server using an i5 desktop and it’s the best experience ever.
No ads.
Content never gets removed.
I can watch everything I have remotely and can even share my library with friends/family.
And the price will never go up yet I can watch anything from Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Apple TV+… you name it.
+1 for unRAID. I did the same when I got tired of Netflix increasing prices while dropping content. Also got annoyed with my cable because it’s expensive and good content is rare.
Bought a 12th gen i5 desktop on sale and 4 x 10Tb drives and installed unRAID on a USB key.
Easiest thing I’ve done in years and it’s 100x better than Netflix and 1000x better than cable.
Some people don’t need a car but will buy one anyway, not sure what point you’re making there. I see no problem in people buying what they want over what they need. Choice is good and if you want to spend more on a vehicle for any reason, that’s OK.
Buses, dump trucks, ambulances, 18 wheelers, tow trucks etc. are all heavy and dangerous. The focus should be on better designed roads and better driver training, not limiting what people can drive.
