Ups and downs of either. Honestly either you’re using something with a backend that’s relying on realdebrid or another debrid style service or you’re going all in on something like radar/sonarr. I use debrid atm because it was really easy to setup with my roommate and get him to use, but the reality is that it could fall apart at any moment whereas torrents will keep going. Not worried about getting trouble either way, honestly

Very easy if it was an earlier model, although I’ve seen some of the newer modchips make soldering about as simplified as possible (but still kinda hard, it’s a tiny board to be fiddling with). I literally hacked my current switch with some aluminum foil and tape (my jig broke, I guess), and besides all that all you need is a decent microsd card and the willingness to follow directions

If you don’t care as much about the specific brand and want to shop deals I would look at laptop deal history on slickdeals and keep an eye on the posts there after nailing down what you think is a good sale price.
