I think they mean that if the standard OS was Linux instead of Windows, and therefore everybody had full control of their computers, that if windows was suddenly released and installed on all pc’s instead of Linux, people would still shrug and be fine with it.

How does that work though? Do you pick a cryptocurrency at checkout on for example steam, and then it charges your creditcard or bank instantly to the crypto currency and then instantly steam? I do not use crypto currency so i don’t know if that is a thing. Is that what you mean?

But that is the problem. It still is my 10 if i have it in my wallet. And until i pay with it, it can fluctuate in my wallet. Unless i guess i buy the crypto coin and immediately pay with it. But that is more of a hassle to buy something.

If i own money in the form of crypto currency and within a day it could be worth half, it is just not viable. Its too much of a gamble.

I use Firefox on everything EXCEPT my Steam Deck. Firefox will not let you open the dropdown menu to exit, make videos fullscreen etc. And when a notification pops up, your firefox is now 100 by 30 pixels…

I can use firefox in desktop mode but i don’t like having to switch to desktop mode and wait for everything. Then switch back to play something.

Also, its space themed which makes it automatically the coolest.

What do people usually use LLM’s for? I know they suck for most things people are using them for like coding. But what do people use them for that justifies all the hype?

That is sadly the truth with many things. People just don’t care unless it personally affects them. And even then it depends if it hits hard enough 💔.

I actually don’t know that much about LLM’s. I do know they require a ton of energy to train the models. But once those are trained, the smaller models especially, don’t require that much to run, right? I once tried to run a local one to see how much it took, and my gpu maxed out for a few seconds and the LLM spit out text and it was done. While when playing games, the gpu maxes out for hours.

Again, i don’t know super much about them as i have only used it a few times over the years to break down big tasks into smaller tasks for my AuDHD when i am very overwhelmed, and it was kinda nice for that.

The image generation stuff is pretty bad though from what i have read. Plus it steals peoples art. Fuck that shit.

Love it! I was recently thinking about the stuff a lot. Yesterday me and my wife were watching our first marvel movie together and she had sooooo much knowledge of the characters and universe. She said she was always so self conscious of that because she was always taught its a “guy thing” to love comic books and superheros. She said she knows i don’t care about that but she was still worried i would think she is to “boyish”. I said i love how much she knows and i want her to be herself and tell me all about it. Not whatever gender role she was told to act like. She grew up in a very conservative right wing family. She is a hardcore leftist nowadays and learning to stand up for herself and i couldn’t be prouder of her.

This plays such a bigger role in our daily lives than we think and its important to talk about.
