Do you think vote sould be private ? Public ? And why ?

I believe vote should be visible by anyone as the modlog. It allow us to mitigate raid, troll, mod abuse. However, i’m aware it could lead to potential issue as mod abuse, harrassement…

Are you sastified with the current voting system ? And why ?

No. I’m not sastified because vote aim was to highlight content. Currently, It partly achieve that goal. The content is highlighted because it is popular. For me, there is some kind of social and cultural pressure.

So i think we can explore it. Slashdot seems a good example as it separate funny comment to more serious one and troll. I would like to highlight technical comment and good website source.

Having a list of blocked website and the reason would be great. We can also limit downvote to subscriber and certain users. PieFed already do that.

It would be great to add emojis, as in iceshrimp. It allow us to express our feeling :)

What other interesting software/website that tried something different do you know ?

For now, i only know slashdot and tournesol. I shared a link about quadratic vote because i find it more interesting than voting yes-no.

What way do you imagine to highlight content and improve search, discoverability ?

Maybe a debate mode ?

For example, here, under this post, we are sharing the pro and con of the voting system and our thoughts.

• What if we have a nice board that sum up all our argument and analyse our link via a bias system ? As the website alternative to.
• Or we can also underline part of a comment and add link, comment, share our opinion. It would be a threaded quote system.

I hope we will see other example that can inspire us. :)

It hugely depends on what post, and what community. Political, scientific one, i post plenty of them and often i don’t care. Video game, interesting topic, environmental, art design…i don’t care.

And the one about sign langage i just want to deactivate downvote on this community, Why ? So you just have to chose between ignore or upvote. Because 99,99% of you, in the fediverse aren’t deaf.

Masto, iceshrimp doesn’t have downvote system. I often post from them to lemmy and it works well.

I don’t see why, my idea is in fact closer to gitlab/github where issue have their own tag.

Nope, we noticed that some of our post diseaspered on our timeline. It was part on a heated debate about desactiving downvote 4 month ago.

Maybe it has been patched since on Lemmy.

Too complex. You’ll have 2-3 votes on every hashtag at most. Implement subcommunity categories instead. It’d be more useful

I believe the opposite, it is way more informative compared to the voting system. I can upvote because of a cute cat, in the picture, it doesn’t tell you why i upvoted. Maybe people downvoted because the post wasn’t filtered with langage option ? Or maybe because it was boring ?

I believe collaborative hashtag would greatly help semantic research.

Nope, I’m just a moderator. Maybe i will setup my own instance : sublinks or piefed. Lemmy will soon allow moderators to check vote and it’s up to the admin to activate it. if i recall correctly.

So i will simply ban on my own community**, that mean only the smallish community on the fediverse about sign language. Why ? because it’s about deaf culture, deaf history…so i don’t see the point of downvoting.

Well, month ago,i wrote a post for rewanping the voting system. For example instead of dowvoting because the post is in german instead of english, we can have a tag/hashtag system with threesold.

As #spam and 10 people vote. Or good article, bad article, complex, sad, scary, not fun…and everyone add them and vote for the most revalent tag/hashtag.

And with this we can improve by leap and bound lemmy search.

True. I think Lemmy can greatly benefit from it and take some inspirations from Sublinks. For now there is a lack of developpers that know rust even tough this programming language is trending.

It would ease up their work and improve their communication. :)

I confirm it, we have lot issue with it.

On the software side, I think the language setting shouldn’t hidden in setting. I would move it in the filter bar along side “local, all, moderator view…”

With your great suggestion, i got an idea for lemmy software : why not activate vote only to subscribed community ? You haven’t subscribed, you can’t vote. But you can hide /filter the community.

The frontpage also need a rework because when you cross-post it flood thus people tend to downvote those posts. And lot other things.

There is some drawback. The main one : app can’t communicate with each other.

Example firefox and his extension keepass. As keepass can’t communicate with firefox, you have to open both apps and switch their windows.

You can use flatseal to manage communication between apps but that’s not an easy process and may prove a security issue if you don’t understand the technical jargon.

Well the part of cryptobros is a tradeoff for me.

And if we talk about on the crypto currency, i prefer the libre currency which is closer from libre/free software and very different from bitcoin.

Well immutable os have some limitation mainly from flatpak.
