Are you running Steam big picture by any chance ? For some reason without hardware acceleration (off by default !) it has terrible performances on my RTX 3080 Ti (pop!_os, drivers 575) and affects the whole system.
Yeah I currently have Linux and windows sharing my only nvme drive because I wanted to use the fastest drive for the OS but clearly it’s causing issues. So I just bought a cheaper one that I will dedicate to windows, along with a sata SSD.
Do you think I can get away with just wiping the partitioned drive and reinstalling both OS, keeping their data drives as is, since they are already each entirely dedicated to one OS ? Or should I do a full clean ?
Just in time for my new nvme drive so I can fully segregate windows and Linux after that mf broke my install again
CMS is arguably worse than AZERTY. Or maybe l’m just too used to AZERTY…
French here, after having to buy a Canadian laptop I can confirm I didn’t go back to the french layout. Also the “english (Canada)” locale usually has sane regionalization options (like DD/MM date and distance in meters or kilometers, celsius temperature…) compared to the other English ones
I thought government grants would make up a big portion of their income, but according to Wikipedia, 98% of the money they received in 2019 was from donations.
So, yeah, it sounds like they really know how to get people to donate
Does that sticker say “no God, no State, no cable salad” in German ? Because that is peak Lemmy.
I think something went seriously wrong after word 2007 when they changed the whole UI.
Can’t you restore them with Ctrl + shift + T or maybe Ctrl + shift + N ?
Yeah for now I remain cautiously optimistic. I have not used their ai stuff once but it was also never shoved down my throat and my browsing experience has not been affected at all, and them finally listening to the community and implementing tabs grouping is just great. If they keep it that way I think we’ll be fine
As a gamedev I feel strongly about financially supporting the games and creators I like so I try to always pay for the game if the price is fair. But Konami can fuck right off, they basically hold SotN and all the best Igavanias hostages behind their shitty bundles that are too expensive and sometimes exclusive to some platforms. Some of them were still Nintendo DS exclusive for ages until they got released in a bundle recently. I’ll consider giving them money again when they start actually making games again.
Same treatment applies to retro Nintendo games. You’re telling me I bought basically all your consoles since the GameCube at release day and you’re still gonna fuck me over and make me pay your stupid online subscription so I can play Super Metroid on the switch (even though I still own a working SNES and the game’s cartridge) ? Honestly that was the last straw that made me preorder the steam deck when I heard how easy it was to emulate on it
No one said they were bypassing the OS. Have you seen the permissions some apps ask for ? Messenger used to straight up refuse to work if it couldn’t access your contacts and what your screen is showing at all times (allegedly to allow their shitty app widget to always display on top of whatever you’re doing). Don’t need a microphone to spy on anyone with that.
Also I have met people who have published some pretty important papers, most of them use scihub on a weekly basis, and none of them care that their papers get “stolen”. And they all have some strong opinions about Elsevier.
She is absolutely great, but she doesn’t talk about Linux, does she ?
TIL CDDA is on the play store
Wow I had a look and I thought they were much more expensive. Might buy one of these when I need to upgrade my fairphone 4.
laughs in fairphone
Edit : seriously though, it’s great. I avoid it if possible but I have no qualms charging it with my steam deck charger, which is very beefy, if the need arises
Also it’s not like windows doesn’t routinely “forgets” these settings with updates. Or harasses you to opt in again with every update, in the hopes that one day you’ll let it slip
