How about the case where I explicitly want them to store my location data? I mean I really use and like that feature.

Yepp, that user was my first and only block ever. Yes, we get it. YT bad, Piped good. It was so annoying.
That was my pet peeve too. I installed it some years ago. Months went by, I’ve used it. Then I saw a new version came out. Okay, time to upgrade! Oh, dump the DB, delete everything, install the upgrade and load the DB back? (Or some similar shit.) And do it every time when there is an upgrade? Okay, uninstall it is.
It was literally the first result on google searching for “google one”
Where are or were those checks exactly in the Lemmy software code? Yeah.
If they were on the lemmy.ml instance, it’s in their right to do so. It’s their instance. The basic codebase, which other instances are using, has nothing to do with it.
Yeah, that’s a major fuckup from Snowe.
Better Nate than lever.
Exactly. As soon as they bent over to NYT, I stopped using them.
That’s why I could never get into Twitter and now Mastodon. I don’t give a shit about who posts, I only give a shit about the topic. I don’t want to follow people. I want to follow topics. And hashtags just don’t cut it.
That was my feeling when my Pixel updated to 14. “That’s… that’s it?”
I actually had to look up what’s supposed to be new.
Check out the lemmynsfw.com instance.
Yeah, I don’t understand why they are limiting themselves to like 5 countries in the world. They could be a huge deal, especially in Europe.
Okay, but. Are they Marxist-Leninist? Pro-China? Socialists? Anti-capitalists? Looks like: yes. Was the whole thing founded on the grounds of free, shared things and anti-corporate thinking? Also yes. Do we absolutely know for sure that the ML domain was chosen because of this? No, because the fucking register of the domain himself said it was chosen because it was free.
It was simply just free. People and their “knowledge” about topics they don’t know anything about…

Dessalines is the owner of the domain, one of the owners of the ML instance and one of the full-time devs of the Lemmy code.
I think an overwhelming number of people simply chose that instance becuase it was the instance, made by the devs themselves. At least it was the case for me.
Xperia 5 5?
I would like to add domain.com to the hard no-no list.
Cool! I’ll just call my bank and tell them that.
That’s what she said.
Came here to say this.
