Recently mobile phone operators introduced a “fair use policy”, so it’s not really a”roam like at home” anymore, but data volumes can be limited to a fraction of what you are entitled to in your home country.

This is a point where WiFi might get more important again when traveling.

Even if you find an alternative it might not help you if not all the others would follow, too, and you could find the type of content and contacts you currently have in FB on that other platform.

Same problem with many social networks that became toxic, but that can’t be replaced easily, because in other, better places, you might not find the same content and contacts.

I have to admit that I still go back to Reddit regularly. There‘s just (still) more interesting / engaging content and more interaction there. Although I would be happy to go „all in fediverse“.

I really don’t think that Mastodon needs influencers. It’s just normal people talking about normal stuff. Don’t need any “I‘m so glorious, and here’s my product that will make you think you’re glorious, too” kind of influencers there, thanks!
