In this, the worst timeline, I am glad that there is no need to add “allegedly”, as Zuck is clearly an alpha degen.
Disk space is definitely an issue, but I think I’ve got my single user instance dialed in on a 2 vcpu/4gb/30GB RAM Hetzner VPS; a cron job that runs at the first of every month deletes pictrs files over 30 days old. Currently at 74%.
A lot of bean memes died the day that job first ran.
Yeah, the tablet runs Fully Kiosk and I tried the same thing with the battery percentage thing and ran into the same issue, so I just simplified and made the automation time-based.
The tablet also likes to freeze a few times a day, so I also created an automation that toggles the smart plug power whenever HA loses connection to the tablet for more than 5 seconds, then toggles back to the original state at the start of the automation, which corrects the problem. Until the next time. But hey! It was only $60, so it’s fine.
That’s a nice setup. I am weirdly jealous of the sliding shelf. The CS350B is very nice as well.
Heat, then suction?
On a related note, I solved the battery issue with my wall mounted Fire tablet (for an HA dashboard) by connecting the power supply to a smart plug and setting up an automation to only give it the juice for about 3 hours per day, spread throughout the day
From top to bottom:
The internet certainly forgets…but a Usenet service with good retention will remember for about a decade
You’re more likely to solve the problem by yelling into a pillow
You mean the Casper Original Pillow I’m buying with Klarna for 4 easy payments of $39.95 at 29.99% interest?
I hear they’re partnering with Amazon on a new version that has a tiny Alexa speaker in it that will whisper ads in your ear while you’re sleeping unless you pay them $15 to turn it off. It’s called the Casper Pillow Talk with Special Offers.
Yelling: ALEXA! HOW CAN I GET CONSUMER PROTECTION IN THE UNITED STATES?
Casper Pillow Talk with Special Offers: I’m sorry, I don’t understand. By the way, did you know that Amazon Pharmacy is now selling antidepressants at a discounted price? To order, just say “Add Xanax to my next drone delivery”. To receive the discount, say “I waive my right to sue Amazon via the justice system and agree to private corporate arbitration until the end of time!”
You can download directly from the repo with Obtainium.
Yes, that’s correct.
Clips are 1080p, and total storage for the entire VM is 128gb, not 1TB. Total disk usage for the HAOS VM does not exceed 64GB for clips retained for 10 days.
I have 4 ethernet cameras feeding into Frigate inside HAOS. HAOS is running in a Proxmox VM with 4 cores, 4GB RAM, 128GB storage and an m.2 Coral TPU passed through.
The host machine is a Lenovo m910q with an i7-6700T processor that pulls about 35w, 32GB RAM and 1 TB NVMe.
Frigate is set to retain clips for 5 days, after which they are deleted. I have a Samba Backup job that runs every night and retains 10 days of backups.
With this setup, disk space never exceeds 50%, and CPU usage never exceeds 35%.
You can also add tags that are searchable
I use several separate small servers in a Proxmox cluster. You can get a used Dell or HP SFF PC from eBay for cheap (example). The ones I am using all came with Intel T series processors that run at 35w.
You install Proxmox like any other OS (it’s basically Debian), then you can create VMs (or LXCs) to run whatever services you want.
If you have existing drives in a media server, you can pass those drives through to a VM pretty easily, or any PCI device, or even the entire PCI controller.
I still miss using my iPAQ h4350. It still works; might be time to fire up Doom4CE…
