I can’t help with the extensions, but I will say Outlook is the hungriest tab on my machine. 850MB on startup with no extensions. So only about half of what you’re seeing, but still way more than anything else I open.

I commend your tab hoarding. I just want to know how much RAM you have to support that. I have 32 GB, Firefox won’t load them until I click on them, and it still struggles at 100 tabs.

Plus that Gavin Belson guy keeps trying to jam his horrible signature into his products.

Interesting. I wonder if humans can subconsciously pick up on it. Supposedly humans can often subconsciously detect when someone else is in the room through tiny vibrations in the air. There is definitely some visual quality that separates a dead person from a live one, but I personally think it’s something with the pupils. It’d be cool if it was miniscule traces of light, though.

This is my exact setup. The upgrade from the smart TV was night and day. Apps load instantly and Jellyfin works great. Most importantly the remote is easy to use and can control the TV.

If I saw that in a repo I would 100% believe it. I’ve seen so many that are just as baffling.

This drives me crazy with software websites and GitHub repos. Sometimes they’ll give you a hint that involves other undefined things like, “This lets you use Floorp with Bibix.”

I can’t speak for the desktop side, but for my server it’s been running without interruption for years. About once per week I do something stupid and use all available memory, but it hasn’t crashed once. It just runs a bit slow until I free up some RAM, then Docker comes back to life once I free up some disk space. I definitely recommend it for anyone who wants a server OS that just works.

It always falls on deaf ears. I can’t believe how many millions my employer throws at Microsoft every year just to complain about how broken it is.

I got one of these recently and it works well. Much smoother than whatever my Smart TV is natively running and it doesn’t crash constantly.

If it were just me I’d have set up a small HTPC with Kodi, but my family needs something that works without ever needing my intervention, and it needs to run the 100 streaming services we hemorrhage money to. These boxes are super cheap and let me run Jellyfin too.

That’s what I’m running. I’m sure you could squeeze more performance out of a specialized OS, but headless Debian is fast and easy enough.

Exactly what I was going to say because this hit me a while back. I still have no good solution; I have to delete shows/movies from the *arr then manually delete them from qbitorrent too.

Any mod recommendations for a 5 year old? He’s got a laptop with Debian on it and I’d like to set him up with MineTest, but I’m not sure he can handle the full MineClonia experience.

It felt like the wild west for a while because there were so many open problems and each implementation seemed to be focusing on a subset of them. Git handles all of them with decent enough speed that there isn’t much incentive to go against the grain.

I think Git is good enough and so ubiquitous that we won’t see a competitor until coding itself drastically changes shape. Who knows what that will look like, but if it’s not collections of relatively flat files then Git may someday be replaced.

What makes me mad is the boomers I watched copy rentals and NFL games are the same ones telling me I’m stealing by using an ad blocker.

I have no advice, but I have a similar issue. Firefox on Windows 10 with just uBlock Origin.

YouTube works fine at first, but if I watch a lot of videos in a row then after an hour or so it starts to load slowly. Then it stutters, then finally I get audio and a single frame for the whole video. Shorts seem to accelerate the descent. I haven’t tried live streams yet, but I bet I’d get the same result.

Completely closing all Firefox instances and reopening fixes it for an hour. It acts like a memory leak, but I’m not even close to maxing out my RAM when it crashes. My fans get loud which makes me wonder if it’s botching the hardware acceleration.

Sadly I can’t help beyond telling you you’re not crazy.

Very interesting. It would certainly make doom scrolling harder. Email always feels more personal, like each message was sent specifically to me for a reason. As opposed to feeds, which feels like looking at cars as they drive by.

I think this system pushes against those boundaries. This sort of concrete brainstorming at the edges is such a crucial part of software evolution, so thank you.
