Actually missed it because it happened so early in the fight. Motta is exciting. There’s just something about people with serious knockout power that draws your eyes to them.

Insane knockouts but the highlights seem somewhat diminished by the lack of crowd reaction.
Worth a read, if only for nice paragraphs like this:
Sonnen has been trying hard to defend UFC pay, and his recent efforts included making dubious claims and inflating the non-disclosed bonuses that he got from the promotion. He claimed to have earned $8,800,000 in the rematch against Anderson Silva, when in reality, lawsuit documents showed that Silva got just $2.5 million while Sonnen got $1.05 million — over eight times less than his claim.
I don’t even think he has much of a point anymore due to the inactivity. Not at heavy weight with one fight against someone with little wrestling skills and after he lost his last fight at LHW to Reyes (who is probably not among this “absolute toughest competition”), no matter what the score cards said. Other unproven champions get stripped all the time when they’re injured.
Why should we believe that he is the exciting guy at HW and presumably past his prime. The last time he beat a legend was 6,5 years ago in another division (Cormier) – and it was overturned due to doping!
So yes, in a literal sense he is right of course, he fought legends and Aspinall didn’t. But I’d rather watch Aspinall v Stipe for the title with Jones stripped than Jones v Stipe and I think it would be more deserving as well. So I don’t think he has much of a point in any practical sense.
On the one hand I don’t give a fuck about either of the two, so I’m happy about some drama. On the other hand: Please don’t cancel the Dariush fight, I’m hyped for that!
The highlight sentence to spare you the click:
While financial details of the transaction remain unknown, Davis revealed plans to do a champions vs. champions “mega-event” in 2024. Additionally, Davis told ESPN that a “reimagined” Bellator brand, named “Bellator International Champions Series,” will run concurrent to PFL in 2024 with eight “one-off” events in 2024.
I think this applies to absolutely everyone haha
Kampfkalender is freaking awesome and converts every event to your time zone: https://kampfkalender.de/
Edit: Also shows the applicable streaming service, but only for Germany, I think.
Still one of the sickest knockouts I’ve got to see live (on screen). The way Reyes folds on the canvas looked so scary.
Summary: Pay is weighted towards the top guys who earned decent money. McGregor e.g. earned about $25 million in the revealed time period of 2011 to 2016. The stars in their prime days earned about 3-5 million per fight.
What I found interesting besides that is that the McGregor effect seems to be real: Jose Aldo earned ~10 times as much in his fight against McGregor than in his other two fights with revealed payouts.
136 mph in a 50 mph zone “while also weaving in and out of traffic”. If that is the full story, he really should go to jail for that imho. Sad to see that he is such an irresponsible person.
Especially considering that it might well be a knockout if he loses. And two KOs in such quick succession have got to be terrible for long term health.
If you don’t wanna read the article, here’s the list:
JP Buys
Jake Collier
Carl Deaton
Andre Fialho
A.J. Fletcher
Hannah Goldy
Kamuela Kirk
Tucker Lutz
Jannifer Maia
John Makdessi
Shane Young
Sad for poor Buys and crazy turnaround for Fialho after the hype with which he started in January of 2022 with two wins. His example really should caution fighters to not be overly active in my opinion, especially if you have a kill-or-be-killed kind of fighting style.
He’s a fucking idiot but goddamn is he funny: “I saw doctors today. The progress is good. I’m happy and proud of this because I’ve already tested my hand Saturday in the arena. They are so proud of the service because I punched [someone]. They said, ‘Paulo, you did pretty well. You are not allowed to do any exercise except beat some Chechen heads if you see them in front of you.’”
What actually is the right referee call in such situations? Are they fine to continue because they have woken up again or should the fight be stopped once they’ve clearly been out of it and haven’t come to on their own?
First time I saw Doumbé. Looks like crazy power and I actually found him very likeable as well. Exciting!
I love the smell of MMA while the sun is still up for once.
This Lapilus dude has insane striking, very impressive.
Maybe, just maybe could have stopped it at the turning away on stanky legs part…
We’ve given up on the live threads, I assume? If so: Sad but very understandable. Are guys just back on Reddit or is there another nice place to discuss MMA that you’re found?
