I understand that logic. But it’s the very fact of even owning something that they produced is enough for me to reject it. if for nothing more than I don’t want people seeing that i use a pixel phone because then, I benefit Google by acting as free advertising for their devices. Is my view extreme? Maybe, but i really hate the tech oligarchs. They have ruined so much in this world.

The pixel is still a product of Google that Google benefits from when you purchase it. Some if us want to avoid contributing to their power as much as we can. Not purchasing a Pixel one of those choices.

Android needs to be replaced as well. I still hold hope for mobile Linux.

Well, its not just the money, its the fact that it is a Google product. Many of us, outside the USA don’t trust anything that Google produces, including Android itself (which is why degoogled phones are a thing) nor do we want to fuel the techno fascists running the company.

Well, this is defintely not good for the GrapheneOS project. they’ve already been criticized for being only accessible by techbros and people with sufficient resources to buy a Pixel. A lot of people were assuming a lower price from Motorola. This is crazy.

Or we just need to drop Proton. Why is the first reaction to reform a company?

If anything, the workers should band together to form a new, more flat organization (esp., coop)

I hated markdown as recently as 2016 due to most of the editors used dual panes which just broke my brain. It wasn’t until I learned about mark text and Typora that I started loving markdown. Both render the text automatically. Now when I receive an .md file, it renders as soon as I open it :)

Now, I can’t live without markdown.

Well, if anyone here is open to starting a non-profit in Europe to deliver something like this, let me know. There is plenty of EU funding for this (I’ve done the research). The reason it hasn’t been done, as far as I can tell is:

• People always tell me that they don’t want to get sued when something happens when someone misinterprets/Misuses their data. This is dumb though as every health and fitness tracker is protected by simply informing the user that it’s not a medical device.
• It’s too difficult to support all devices. Partially true. However, there are many opensource apps that can already grab a lot of the data (gadget Bridge probably being the most well known). Also, not all data is always captured by sensors. Sometimes it is recorded manually (esp., for blood pressure cuffs). Also, consider that there is a whole Eco-sysyem of FLOSS apps that do collect health data that DO NOT share that data with other apps. For example, Medilog. An aggregator should be able to grab those apps data as well. It’s even possible to create seperate sync apps for these apps (assuming the developer doesn’t want to help) like the OpenScale sync app (which syncs to Health COnnect).
• It’s not a money maker. I hate when people say this. Why does all technology need to make the developers billionaires? A small organization could very easily make enough to sustain itself, they just won’t be Corporate Tech Bros.

Wtf there is no FLOSS health data aggregator in the year 2026 is beyond me. A fully open alternative to Google/Samsung’s “Health Connect” would be a great start.

Back in the mid 90s i wasn’t able to afford windows so i was using Geos (later renamed to ‘New Deal Office’). Its what actually made me gravitate to Linux because one of my colleagues was surprised i wasn’t using Windows. He was a huge Linux fan and recommended i try it.
