I was questioning the use of the word “prolly”
Oh, this looks good! Thanks
Oh my god can we please stop describing every piece of software as AI
Not quite. It’s more an “average sentence generator” - which is one reason to be skeptical: written text will tend to get more average and bland over time
This is how an LLM will always work. It doesn’t understand anything - it just predicts the next word based on the words so far, learned from reading loads of text. There is no “knowledge” in there, so stop asking these things questions and expecting useful answers
I think OP was asking how do they interact with their desktop environment to get the eSIM information to the modem
An eSIM is a code number that is used to identify a phone account, and replaces a SIM card. On my phone I installed an eSIM by scanning a QR code. OP wants to know what’s the equivalent in a Linux distro, if there is one. It’s a good question, but I don’t know the answer myself
It looks really good. Right now it can’t handle Outlook calendars, but I’ll try it again once that’s working
One thing people should remember if they’re looking at this is that electricity costs more than gas in many areas, but a heat pump will require only something like 1/3-1/4 of the kWh to get the same effect as a gas boiler. So people should take that into account: work out your annual gas kWh consumption from past bills, find out what this would cost in electricity and then divide by something like 3.5
Thanks!
Thank you - that’s a really useful answer. I’ll check them out
Thank you - I’ll have a look at that
2 and 3 are massive. I’m on Mastodon, but am having a much better time on Bluesky. Mastodon is full of gatekeeping and policing and people complaining - Bluesky is just fun and interesting, like Twitter 12 years ago
If they’re like the originals, let’s hope nobody ever needs to control them with the slightest bit of moisture on their hands.
I got some of those Chipolo trackers shown in the photo. So far I’m pretty disappointed. Based on the locations being reported, I’m pretty sure my phone is the only one in my city working on the Find my Device system, and even that is intermittent. For example, I’ve left my bike, which has a Chipolo tracker hidden on it, in public places such as a busy train station. After two days on the station platform - with goodness knows how many Android phones passing by - the bike is still showing as being at home in my garage. Like, it didn’t even get logged on my own phone as I cycled to the station and left the bike and tracker there. The system really isn’t up to speed yet
Rain Alarm! It’s great, and you can customise alerts too
I think the problem is that you’re not explaining which country you’re thinking of, and seem to be suggesting it’s the same legal situation everywhere
For context, UK domestic energy suppliers don’t actually do any generation or distribution - they just retail electricity produced and distributed by others. So they can buy wholesale energy and attempt to compete on price, customer service, or other innovative products (eg Octopus’s dynamic pricing).
Normally I’d expect Tesla to do an Uber-style approach of subsiding the prices for the first couple of years to try to capture market share, as well as the more obvious vertical integration with their cars. But in this market, switching suppliers is too easy to make that worthwhile
