Hey 👋, I’m the dev! The goal is not to be read only! In fact our comments are already federating (this one).
The community federation just needs a bit more work across both the bridge and wrapping up some configuration work, but frankly our user count is <10 right now. There’s not really much native activity, it’s mostly some bot accounts I have set up, so you’re not missing much atm

I’m the dev here if anyone has any questions, I was waiting till it was in a more finalized state to announce it. Also full transparency since this community is a little more sensitive on it, this project has been agentically built over the course of the last 1-2 years, but I am a SWE in my day job.
I’m sure most people here would be more curious about the ActivityPub -> atproto bridge, I call this Tidepool code is here: https://tangled.org/bretton.dev/tidepool
I’m planning full Lemmy / Piefed / Pylova federation, the goal is not only to be read only here! Ex my comment is from Coves! Communities themselves aren’t being federated yet though.
OP I’d love to know what was spamming you, I can help tackle that we don’t have many users and signups are disabled, but I do have some automated bot posts running but those shouldn’t be federating yet.
UPDATE - Spammer banned on my side 🫡

Not sure if you have tried the For You algorithm on bluesky but it’s really good

They have a free tier with 100 searches! It doesn’t sound like a lot but I usually don’t cross it.

I was also impacted, you need to remove the payload that got dumped:
Payload: /tmp/.pxb/{curl,wget}, /tmp/.spid
Two processes named khungtaskd / cron
They also stole your admin token so go to the Plex UI and log out of all devices for whichever account has ownership of the instance.
Then you can reclaim ownership and it resets the admin token.
You should likely be fine, I didn’t have any crypto miners on mine, it was just in a docker instance and didn’t have access outside of it. I would be much more worried if it was a direct install on a main PC.
Also install watch tower

I mean I love Mbin but it’s kindve the odd child out here. We should really have a section for Threadiverse and for Microblog
FWIW I’ve had multiple DigitalOcean VMs die seemingly out of nowhere.
Never had a problem with OVH nor Hetzner.

These research papers talking about AI leading to cognitive decline seem so asinine when certain people’s productivity has just skyrocketed under AI.
Sure the hand coding capabilities decline, but that’s replaced by thinking around the actually product or architecture.
A huge sect of new Linux users and Selfhosters are talking about how much AI has enabled them yet we’re still bringing up papers on cognitive decline that were written on models from 3-4 years ago when Claude Code didn’t even exist.

Love this, opus 5.5 is absolutely nuts at optimization. I was able to use it to get some 10x performance improvements recently.

It seems like the tide is finally starting to turn here in terms of LLM usage. Even 4 months ago this thread would be a nightmare lol

It’s a good thing Sam Altman isn’t Anthropic !
Probably the right decision given there’s no way to truly tell what level of AI generation or effort within the project itself with AI has taken place.
I understand the willingness to ban low effort low quality one shot projects, but given most software nowadays incorporating some level of LLMs, I can’t ever see a blanket ban working out anywhere.

I think the goal here is to get the general population off Discord and moved into a more open platform.
IRC is great but I can’t see the average user using it unfortunately. Every platform has its own goal, but the ultimate community goal is whatever pushes us to an open social space is a net positive imo!

Colibri to my knowledge is basically doing public chats until private spaces are in a better spot then doing private spaces for private groups.
Roomy.space is another one of these who built their own private spaces on atproto and would be worth checking out.
Also Atproto isn’t inherently a bad place for this since it can be a hybrid system of on or off protocol, or using their upcoming permissioned data spaces for private data.
It’s interesting I have the exact opposite perspective with AI in regards to selfhosting.
The customizability is now endless for me, I can do anything, customize anything, problems that are typically 1-2 hours are fixed in <5 minutes.
Don’t want to fiddle w/ a GUI? Shoot off a message and it’s done.

Youre probably looking more for something like the atmosphere (bluesky network) where you have one identity for every app.
But as the other guy said definitely in an ideal world everything communicates with everything cleanly.
I had tons of stability issues within the last year unfortunately, I would still recommend against it.

I still think it’s odd to ban AI outright, it’s incredibly democratizing for smaller platforms and enables them to keep up with without getting bogged down in the drudgery of bug fixes / testing.

It’s impossible, I’ll never understand why anti ai repos draw such a hard line instead of saying hey we won’t even look at 1000+ LOC PRs or design reworks with no discussion.
Both of those are pretty reasonable policies that will kill most of the fly by AI requests.
I’m not surprised it’s moving this direction, but I am surprised it’s moving this direction now.
Hardware is extremely difficult to find right now and token prices are falling off a cliff in terms of price per intelligence. About 6 months ago I was talking about how it’s only going to get cheaper from here and still seems to hold up today, we really don’t need anything better than Opus 5.5 and compute is only going to keep increasing (price decreasing) who knows what the field will look like next year.
Either way I’m happy to live in a world pushing towards that, just surprised.
