I could’ve used this community a month ago. For years, I swore I had a fever dream in my childhood about playing a side-scrolling shoot-em-up game with dinosaurs as anthropomorphic protagonists.

A friend of mine reminded me that Dinosaurs for Hire was a thing, released on the SEGA Genesis in 1993.

I was worrying about this change because my Plex server provides free streaming for several of my friends and family and I didn’t want them to have to start paying for it. The whole point was to get them away from Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, etc.

But this sounds like, since I’m already a Plex Pass subscriber, my remote viewers will still be able to access my stuff for free. Do I have that right? Because if so, this change is just business as usual for me.

No Android version?

I thought I responded to this, but my comment isn’t here. Must’ve forgotten to hit send.

In the past, my Android phone would allow me to add or remove URLs that the YouTube app opened, but it seems I can’t edit that anymore. However, here’s an alternative:

1.) Go to Apps > Default Apps > Opening Links

2.) Scroll down to the YouTube app and click on it (remember, I can’t remove it because I have a Pixel (Google) phone).

3.) Switch the Open by Default option from “in the app” to “in your browser.” Done!

4.) If you haven’t already, go back to the Default Apps category and set your browser app to Firefox. Now all YouTube links will open in Firefox.

I’m not the guy you’re replying to, but I use Proton VPN, which seems to do a pretty good job blocking ads. I also added “dns.adguard.com” to my private DNS setting on my phone and tablet. Most ads are just gone now.

I also use uBlock Origin on my Firefox app. Then I disabled the YouTube app (I have a Google phone, so I can’t get rid of it) and redirected all YouTube links to my Firefox browser. No more ads on mobile YouTube now!

I think it was paid… But it’s been years so I couldn’t tell you.

It’s currently $3.99 in the Play Store for me, with a crossed-out list price of $6.49. Not a bad deal.

See, my middle name ends with an S and my last name begins with an S… and my middle name is a pluralized name, so nobody hears the S when I say it in conjunction with my last name. So I’ve gotten really good at pronouncing the S, stopping for a beat, then saying my last name, without it sounding super weird or robotic.

So properly pronouncing “hot potato” while enunciating the first T doesn’t seem too challenging to me.

I was referring to PlexAmp. It’s decent, works well, but I just liked the interface for Symfonium better. It seemed more functional than PlexAmp when I switched over to it.

I actually haven’t used PlexAmp in a few years, so maybe it’s gotten better lately. I guess I’ll have to compare apps.

I’ve been maintaining a self-hosted music library for so long (30+ years now), there used to not be any tools for editing metadata. I used to have to go into file properties and manually edit the data for each individual MP3 file. Nowadays, I use Mp3tag to manually edit entire albums at a time. I have ADHD though (the hyperfixation kind), so I’ve literally dedicated thousands of hours to manually fixing metadata.

I guess I never bothered to look for more advanced tools to auto-update metadata. I had to go in and manually fix stuff that updated automatically from the Internet in the past, so I guess I stopped trusting online databases. But they’ve really advanced since the last time I went searching for tools, and their databases are a lot more complete in this day and age. I’m gonna play around with some of these programs and see how well they work.

I host my music library through Plex, then use Symfonium on my phone if I want to stream my Plex music remotely, just because I like their interface a little better than Plex’s.
