I don’t really like bluesky anyway. I won’t invest in a platform that will be bought and enthisitfy by some fascists as twitter was.

DDL links will eventually go down, and it’s a single point of failure, once down the file may be lost forever.

Torrent is much more resilient long term.

Not strictly torrent. But I still use eDonkey Network, and it’s healthy as hell, even as all projects are almost abandoned, as long as someone it’s using it you can share. The power of p2p

Games are still not perfect. Multiple screens can be really finicky if they have different resolutions and refresh rates.

I tried MX Linux recently because of that.

People are against it because several reasons.

First because it’s a very specific taste/opinion that they don’t share. You are saying that “all would be more appealing without softcore porn”, but it seems that you are the only one who thinks that here, most people don’t care or even like it. We could also put a filter to blurry dog pictures for people scare of dogs, where does it end? Until which point personal tastes should have their own explicit filters? It ends in a “word filter” which is already usable.

Also I would say that most people is against this because it reads as a first step towards a “porn ban”. We have no puritan advertisements or pay processor to please. People here like the freedom. And that would be a step in the opposite direction. It reads a little like so many discourses we are seeing in so many places to make them “family friendly” and to “protect the children”. I would suppose that due the nature of the fediverse (which is a push back against those people controlling our internet) is against anything that looks like that.

I don’t know any place which have the proposed “soft nsfw” filter separate from “nsfw”.

Comparison with reddit is weird as reddit r/all is full of ““artistic”” pictures or paintings of naked women.

Also the fediverse is not really like reddit. The more the platform grows the more useless All becomes. Try to go to mastodon and browse by “all” it’s unusable. Either pick an instance with a good “local” you like or all is not really that important. I don’t think it’s a “first impressions”, first impression is “local”. All is never going to be a curated feed, not a consistent one. It’s a federated platform, which means a LOT of diversity and variety on communities and posts.

Also I don’t see or even want to start consider anything that shows a little skin “nsfw”. I think that’s a very personal taste that should not be universally applied.

I really don’t buy the argument here.

Anyway, I’ve been thinking about taking music out, and use other service for it. As the search feature is currently unusable with so much content.

Tor is not that slow for normal internet usage. You can even watch videos in SD.

I count denuvo or kernel anticheat as malware. And the probability to get those from a legal site are really high.

Cracking requires to reverse engineering the executable. Which can get quite complex.

If the game is not drm protected or the drm have been cracked then the pirated copy will also come quickly.

System breaking errors that doesn’t allow you to even login?

Windows have lots of issues, but it’s been a while since I found those system breaking issues to be somehow common.

For all their shit, credit myst be given when credit is due. And windows it’s become a really robust systems against layer 8 issues. Even powering off middle update is kind of easy to recover (I have to solve this issue for a user recently).

If you ever downloaded a game with a basic steam crack you already have it. The files are the same for all games.

I do have the feel that gaming piracy is on a all time low. At the moment there isn’t even a single active denuvo cracker while there used to be like 3-4. Probably because stores like steam and gog, which are consumer friendly with fair prices for most products and not linked with stupid subscriptions.

On the other hand movie and shows piracy is rising for the anti-consumer platforms, who can pay $200 a month for seeing all decent shows and movies without ads? Very few people, and even then you own nothing.

I have a feel that music piracy will rise soon too. As Spotify already have started the anti consumer route. I’m pretty sure in a few years it’s subscription won’t be as worth it as it used to be, and a lot of people will find out that they have been paying for years and still own nothing.

I don’t really like synapse, because it performs really bad. But at least it has a stable development. So that’s what I use.

But more and more I’m questioning if matrix is really the federated messaging platform we want. A lot of the drama and development issues of any synapse alternative seem to have their roots in how hard and unsatisfactory is trying to follow the matrix protocol which is subdued to synapse development in a weird form, apparently.

I still use it. But I’m too tired of the drama, and wondering if there’s even a chance for a long term synapse alternative, or if matrix devs are actually doing something that prevents that for ever happening.
