I did know that AI data centers have driven up RAM prices. Didn’t know that they have done the same to storage prices. :( F*ck AI.
But still the sunken stars appear
In dark and windless Mirrormere;
There lies his crown in water deep,
Till Durin wakes again from sleep.

I know that, but I also want to keep seeding. It’s a balance, I guess. But perhaps I could remove that which I haven’t watched for 90 days and whose share ratio has reached 1.0 or that hasn’t changed for 90 days. That way, I can enjoy having the files around and keep seeding that which has some popularity.

Wow! I’m saving this regardless. Great “GUI” for ffmpeg and whatnot. Thanks for the recommendation! I’m extremely picky about quality, watching everything on my 43 inch 4K TV. Banding in dark areas and gradations are the worst. XD

No, I’m just torrenting. Video only. Music I stream and games I buy. So for now, we’re talking 15TB of series and movies.

Maybe I’ll end up doing the same. Maybe I’ll buy a properly soundproofed chassi and put it in the kitchen or something. XD

Here is just one of many guides. Let me know how it turned out! :D
When I want to share files with people who aren’t technologically inclined, I encrypt the file and file headers with 7-zip, upload it to my cloud under a random filename and just share the link with the people.

Thanks for all the great advice! :) I’m reading Kyun’s pages for now, then I’ll check out this other one.

Sorry for spamming. Got any insight into what specs I could manage with? I’m thinking, if I only want to mirror and/or aggregate some magnet links sites, I could make do with the bare minimum, right? Like a single core, two gig RAM setup + however much space a webserver serving text files would need? Ah, but then there would be considerable lag because of scheduling whenever more than one person tried to navigate the site? 🤔
Well then, that sounds great, because I love tinkering and learning new stuff. :)
I do recall using some minor distro - perhaps antiX - a long time ago to save a broken laptop. I did do init [some number between 0-5] to manipulate the system’s power state, I think. That’s my experience with it haha.

Thanks for the tips about crypto and prepaid debit! We don’t have prepaid debit in my country, unfortunately, but maybe I could by some XMR and pay with that. I’ll read up on it! :)
I’ve been using Linux for five years exclusively with systemd, without noticeable issues. I’m only considering the switch since the main branch - which is still the one being used by most distros by default - has added an Age parameter in some config file. Which isn’t verification in any sense - you may just leave it blank until an app or the OS requires it - but it’s ideologically not my cup of tea.
Sweet! If and when Arch implements age verification, Artix is where I’m seeking asylum.
A question: I have a fair understanding of Linux - been using it for five years - but only with systemd. Is it hard to transition to other init solutions? Is one better than the others? What about sysVinit?

Simply seeding doesn’t feel enough anymore… I’d like to contribute by running a magnet link aggregator, a public or private tracker or whatever. Anybody got any tips on how to do it without revealing PII? Even if I were to set things up on a VPS instead of my own hardware, it still would require me to pay with payment methods that give away my name and banking info, right?

Used it once on a laptop whose fan had died and which I in retrospect shouldn’t have used no matter how little I tax the CPU, but, it worked. antiX at least let me boot up, save my data and then discard the laptop.

Got any good ones? ;)

Good question. I don’t remember. :/ Sorry >.<

Kazaa + Linkin Park + mp3 player = <3
Thanks for the advice on gaming over networks! :)
Yeah, I also don’t think there is any noticeable gain to be had here.

Pokémon: The First Movie (1998), which I had downloaded with Kazaa, turned out to be a Pokémon hentai ripoff, which my parents got to before I had a chance to come home from school. I walked in on mom and dad sitting in front of the computer, trying to act intrigued at what they’re watching. Possibly trying to justify why their child is into Pokémon porn. I did my homework and helped doing the dishes that day. Can you believe that?
I say we storm their HQ Naruto style.
