I was priced out of the hobby when I finally had the space and time to start getting into it. This just confirms it will stay out of my reach.

. They could (and I think do) have a system for developers to claim that a game has stolen its work and request for it to be taken down.
I agree with this. Something like community notes on other social media might help on identification and alerting other users, but making sure that’s not gamed by bots and the like is a separate issue.

Ah, so not the “first two” as in bullet points 1 and 2 in my list.
So, a few things here:
Edit: this is also not even the exhaustive version of the list.

In what world would adding a UI filter to hide games that use AI would it be illegal? Cite a law. Explain why all the other filters are not?

I used to self-host email way back in the day. Spam filtering apparently is more of an issue. As of right now, whether or not I have a job after January is very much unknown so no spending for me for now.

I don’t use AWS which is where Amazon makes most of their money. I order from them a couple of times a year for stuff I can’t otherwise find. I don’t use anything by meta at all.
MS Windows are another matter, but I’m not giving them money at least. I have software that is flakey to unavailable on Linux and breaks on any update. I work two jobs so not a lot of time to mess with it.
Google is the hardest one, but they also don’t get a ton of money from me and I plan on avoiding them for my next phone if possible (though everything is terrible that works with Felica which I need to be able to function in Japan). I was going to move my mail to Proton and start there, but Proton has made a lot of decisions that pushes me away from that.

Some needle-in-a-haystack game came out and got cloned to death is what I’m seeing in the news. People can’t differentiate the original one vs the clones and it’s hurt sales. Some companies are stopping open betas and other things as well to avoid it being cloned before they go to full release.

So many companies had better get broken up for anti-compete when the dems take power. They won’t, but I can dream.

For cloning, I’m not sure of the best solution. Allowing the owner and users to report it is nice. But what happens when people are coincidentally working on a very similar game and release around the same time, even without knowledge of each other?

I get the appeal, especially as I get older and my vision isn’t as good. Having a screen that can be bigger as needed helps in a number of ways. That said, no way I’d buy one because I don’t see how they survive in the long term.

$200 […] almost nothing if you compare it to a programmer’s salary
This is going to depend wildly on where in the world you are (for salaries) as well as currency conversion. My AI budget is zero since I don’t care for it, but I don’t think anyone on my team has that high of a monthly, let alone weekly, budget.

It being open source doesn’t necessarily improve anything for me. I’m a software engineer and could go through the code, but it’s not like I know everything about everything nor am I specialized in security. But at that point… Why? Even if the data somehow doesn’t leave my device (which I still doubt by default because vulnerabilities are being discovered all the time) why is that worth the effort or the risk?
I didn’t have an always-on internet connection until sometime in my 20s. I can live without it.

If the fediverse starts requiring ID to post, I won’t post. I already don’t use FB, Insta snap, TikTok, or whatever the hell else there is these days.

Not in Japan yet, at least on my account. I only use amazon a couple of times a year for things I can’t get anywhere else, but it should have plenty of history to work with.
My union says we will go to the legal system if no agreement is reached. It’s just been very slow going and, at first, felt like nothing was happening.
People do hidden recordings. I’ve heard a mix of things about them actually being admissible if it goes to court (mostly that they are not).
Japanese reputational damage laws. You can get sued even when what you are saying is 100% true
My family gets sued. AboardInJapan would also get sued which is why no news orgs ever pick this stuff up.
Farming is a hobby. A lot of it is done on tractor or seated in the dirt.
I was also tired of the constant noise and business of Tokyo. Don’t really have expensive maintenance.
Call the media, do the drama
Even saying 100% true things, this gets you sued in Japan. This is specifically why I don’t name the company.
Data has to federate, so nothing is going to really be private like you mention. I think it’s unreasonable to expect anything otherwise. I don’t see a point to hiding votes because of this. If someone starts stalking or harassing their voters for some reason, have a reporting system and handle that.
