4chan is hardly a financial/corporate entity (though they do seem to profit off traffic with ads), therefore much harder to go against, but blocking the service is still effective. It will be up to 4chan to see if they want to comply with the law and get unblocked or if they can live without Australian traffic.

VPN/Tor, sure, but at that point the service itself can’t confirm where the visitor is from, therefore Australian laws wouldn’t apply.
National level site blocking, suspension on any future operations, international courts… Corporations are much easier to persecute over borders than private persons.

IIRC moving the instance won’t be helpful - the issue is the servicing of minors, not where the service is. And while the server being in a different country might be a bit of a roadblock for legalities, the general consensus is, like with GDPR - if you make your service available in Australia you must comply with Australian laws, therefore need to make your instance unavailable to children.

You’ll also find that LLMs are actually quite useful in putting together scripts that will take all the photographed pages, and convert them to a proper EPUB format (using OCR, direct extraction of images, etc.), reducing the overall size and improving quality.
Visual models can even create custom CSS for you, and if there are graphs and such, LaTeX can be utilised as well.
All the tools exist separately and LLMs can write that binding glue easily.
Worth a try especially if the textbook is (regular) text heavy.

This reminds me of how much I hate the fact that we haven’t had a PROPER portable file system that is truly portable, for nearly 20 years.
FAT32/ExFAT is fine, but simply lack a ton of features to be truly a modern portable FS. It’s fine if you want to drag around a few files, but for more complex tasks, it doesn’t have the right setup.
Ext4 is starting to show its age.
BTRFS could be the answer but both Microsoft and Apple are shitheads about filesystem drivers so it’s super hard to integrate with them.
Let’s not even talk about how closely Apple tries to guard HFS+/AppleFS, default drivers on any commercial OS will be a hurdle.
And Microsoft… third time trying to make ReFS happen while NTFS withers away, ancient, impossibly unusable for modern tasks due to its architecture, and licensed in a way as if someone would actually want to steal the crap functionality implemented in it.

I have to concur by the way, aside from a handful Hungarian private trackers, I too use pretty much the same public trackers (with a few added from Prowlarr’s built in list for specific subtopics).
