  • The are closing the source, so custom ROMs won’t have the same code they did before.

GrapheneOS, for instance, a privacy focused rom that focused on pixels, won’t be able to release to the same schedule as regular android. Only commercial developers will get the required code.

It’s one more nail inthe coffin of androids open nature. I’m looking forward to limix phones. A return to control, customisation and less data harvesting.

It’s truly awful what the smart phone ecosystem has become.

  • On Lemmy, you might find it overwhelming by looking at the all communities feed and then blocking those you don’t like. Instead subscribe to the ones you want and then just view the subscribe feed.

Personally, I use all to find more content and block communities I don’t want. I then just jumpnjnto subscribed occasionally of there is too much junk.

It’s a shame that there aren’t finer controls, like to ramp up and down communities rather than just block or subscribe. Some communities, I wouldn’t mind seeing their popular posts but I don’t want to say the hordes of junk posts. Only option is to block.

  • No, I’m not saying artist money is any more immoral than any other purchase. I’m also saying artists should not depend on donations only. I also did not say I exclusively pirate. Don’t put words in my mouth.

I’m saying the current system is broken. Replacing it with tips is not the solution. Transport and creative industries will see huge lay offs in the coming years. We need to decide as a society what we value. Is it creating art and pleasure or lines going up on company spreadsheets. Free spread of ideas and art is an ideology. The only reason not to allow it is to profit. Those profits don’t go to most artists.
