  • In my humble opinion: they are stealing you with that price for what it offers.

Buuuuuuuuuut, it’s Mozilla, and I’ve been using Firefox for ~10 years, so this is my way to “pay them back”. It also contains a super useful feature in my opinion called “Send”, that basically if you have attachments that are too big to share through email, you can send them through “Send”, imagine Mediafire for sending files, but inside your mail client, I don’t use it that often but is useful when you need to share an .iso or something like that instead of a link to a cloud service.

  • Andy Yen, the CEO of Proton, had a message for an employee in the company’s security Slack channel who urged the company to at least take a few days to pentest newly written code before pushing it live. “That’s bullshit and loser thinking. Of course it’s possible to be fast and secure,” Yen wrote in the channel at the end of August. “Stop thinking always of how to be slower, and focus more on how to be faster.”

“Due to insufficient velocity,” Proton is not on track to achieve its annual recurring revenue target by the end of the year, one internal document obtained by 404 Media reads. Proton’s year-over-year growth is also “far away from what the market today considers to be good,” and, “By all metrics that matter, we’re an underperforming company.”

In a Slack channel dedicated to thanking people for their work, Yen jumped in. “Get it fixed,” he wrote, referring to Proton’s Reddit post announcing the feature. “Now Reddit is pissed and we look worse than Tuta,” he added, referring to a Proton competitor.

I think he believes that he will be the next Steve Jobs by screaming to their employers and forcing AI to increase annual revenue and imagine TAKING REDDIT COMMENTS SERIOUSLY AS AN CEO and comparing themselves with Tuta.

Just a friendly reminder that Mozilla (creators of Firefox/Thunderbird) created a email service called Thundermail in case you want to check it out, I honestly trust more in Mozilla than in Proton, is a bit expensive and it’s currently on beta access, but I love Firefox so I feel like this is the way to give them money they can actually use.

  • Why does it feel so “wrong” to play AI decompilated ports? I guess because people doesn’t actually do anything but ask an LLM to do everything and they just release it like they did something amazing?

I don’t care when using AI with the Linux kernel because we know that Linus has been developing the kernel for years, so we can guess we know what he is doing, but honestly I prefer to play an emulated version of PT using ShadPS4 than using this decompilated version

Edit: According to the article the developer didn’t use AI to decompile PT and port it to PC, but actually port it with new features, I guess in this case is “fair use” if he know what he’s doing, but you get my point, with games like Bloodborne or GOW.

  • Can somebody explain to me what’s the thing with Omarchy? I enjoy Arch my own way, but I get constant video recommendations on YouTube from Tech Bros telling me to install this thing, and then 90% of Lemmy hate it, why? And why 1Password donate $100k to them instead of Debian or even Arch?

  • I’m not sure how Firefox can know the difference between a loyal and casual user, but if such thing even exist it doesn’t matter to Mozilla.

Let’s be real, how many % of the browser market is owned Firefox? 3%? Loyal users would be like 0.5% or even less.

They care about money (and is fine, they need it to maintain the project) and attracting new casual users, and this is the kind of thing that do both: Not sure if FIFA sponsored Mozilla but looks like, and casual people will open Firefox just to see the World Cup results

And even so, you can just turn it off, I guess

  • I’m so fucking tired of this AI bullshit, and I don’t mean you OP, I mean this bubble at all.

Oh it’s the end of the world thanks to AI, we will not have to work anymore because AI can do it for us! But at the same time AI stole our jobs so we can’t buy shit.

And in the other side, AI is the most important advance in human history, we will unlock space time travel and we will be able to be inmortal all thanks to it!

No matter where the fuck you go, there’s always AI now. I just hope this shit ends soon, like the crypto currency scam that happened some years ago.

  • I know that this is my particular case and yours, but can’t agree more. I stopped using YouTube when I started noticing how the shitty content affected me indirectly. Is not like I really care that much, but I wanted to kill myself each fucking time I (who never searched shit like this) open YouTube and the first video was like: MAN = BAD. KILL ALL MAN. END OF THE WORLD, YOUTUBERS THAT I DON’T GIVE A FUCK “FIGHTING” EACH OTHER TO GAIN VIEWS. 😱.

So in the same way I like Lemmy (because you actually get the content you want, not sponsored shit) I started to use YouShit again through LibreTube, and now I’m happy with my cat videos.
