Is your computer going to sleep as well or just screensaver? I’ve ran into a similar issue on both AMD and Nvidia because the power management on each has caused me problems. I basically turned off the auto sleep to give myself a bandage fix to it. My PC runs pretty cool on idle though, so that’s not too horrible.
When it’s not displaying them properly, what does it do?
Yep, for example Ubuntu took like 4 extra months to get a late enough driver to fix the Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth texture issue. Completely unplayable until I believe driver 570.123. I had the updated driver pretty early on Arch, but wouldn’t ever suggest that to someone casually considering switching.

Yep, I know the writing was on the wall ever since they announced Silicon. While annoyed at the time, getting out from under Intel’s thumb was probably the right choice, and they’re way more powerful machines as a result. Still not a fan of Apple myself, but wanting to do it themselves is respectable.

Try this and see if it helps. There’s a problem that Valve is supposedly trying to fix that causes something of a timebomb of FPS stutter after a specific amount of time. I saw someone say theirs was 24 min and mine seemed to align to that too. Set your start parameters to:
LD_PRELOAD="" %command%
Oh, one note about this … it will break the Steam overlay.
So many of these are coming out that combine Scrabble and Balatro. Just watched a video about Word Play (https://store.steampowered.com/app/3586660/Word_Play/) a couple days ago.
Lol I have done it for a long time too and completely forgot about the bug or how I fixed it, and had no idea that’s why the overlay is broken too. At least now I understand and will be able to fix it when the update drops.
Ah, bummer. Well as long as it can run on Proton, I guess there’s no loss for me anyhow. But always a bad sign when newer OSes fail to support older games.
Haven’t played Fahrenheit in forever (not since it was Indigo Prophecy on the US Steam release), but never had issues. Is it having problems with more modern Windows versions now?
I also would never recommend Arch to a Linux newbie. I’ve used it for a couple years too as my DD and am very comfortable with it, and not looking to switch off it. But suggesting it to someone new is just asking for trouble. If they even get through the initial install within their first attempt and have it bootable, that’d be surprising. It’s very powerful and incredibly customizable, but that’s irrelevant if you’re just needing to learn the system.
Also Steam Deck being built on Arch is moot. You don’t install Steam OS yourself, it comes preinstalled so people can jump right on.
Can confirm though that Bazzite is a great system for someone new who wants to game as their primary purpose on their PC. Can be tricky if the immutable system causes you to not be able to do other things though.
Have you tried setting

That should force Proton to try using DirectX 12 Ultimate.
Almost all my banking is done from my phone. It’s rare I need to sit in front of my PC to do so. But that also doesn’t need backed up, it’s all web accessible. I do download all my bank, credit card, and loan statements monthly, but I store all of that in my Proton Drive, nothing remains on my PC. I call it my gaming PC because that’s what it’s for 90% of the time, but I do use it for personal stuff too. That doesn’t really change the fact that literally nothing needs backed up aside from game saves.
Is your work laptop owned by you? That I would definitely understand. Mine is owned by my organization and I want nothing personal on it ever as a result. I like how I can compartmentalize work from entertainment that way.
Yeah, my work laptop is for all my productivity, and it is owned by my work so doesn’t cause extra expense.
You’re assuming that everyone wants to back up their system though. On my gaming PC, I would literally want just this, I couldn’t care less about everything else. For me this would be useful. Would also be nice for my Steam Deck for my GOG games.
I’m torn between whether they meant they didn’t know there was a second game or if it’s like me saying it’s too bad there was never a second Matrix movie.
