  • There are a couple interesting things:

[gamescope] [Error] vulkan: vkGetPhysicalDeviceFormatProperties2 returned zero modifiers for DRM format 0x38344241 (VkResult: 0)

[gamescope] [Error] vulkan: vkGetPhysicalDeviceFormatProperties2 returned zero modifiers for DRM format 0x38344258 (VkResult: 0)

Yet the final straw seems to be:

[gamescope] [Warn] xwm: D-Bus call to get unit corresponding to pid 2291408 failed!

    sd_bus_call(g_dbus, message, UINT64_MAX, NULL, &reply)failed with ret -30

[Gamescope WSI] Creating Gamescope surface: xid: 0x2a0005e

[gamescopereaper] [Info] reaper: Parent of gamescopereaper was killed. Killing children.

[gamescopereaper] [Info] reaper: Parent of gamescopereaper was killed. Killing children.

[Gamescope WSI] Failed to get Wayland objects (EE) failed to read Wayland events: Connection reset by peer Game Recording - game stopped

    [gameid=2073850] Removing process 2291192 for gameID 2073850

It seems there are some Nvidia drivers and gamescope compatibility issues, so you will most probably need to match Nvidia drivers with gamescope versions.

  • There are many ways to do it, I have never used Steam like that but never heard of a ban due to cracked games. My preferred way would be using Lutris, but I have not used it in a while.

    The general concept is:

    1. Create a container/app in Lutris, selecting your Wine preferred version.
    2. Open the container (so that it creates the directory files)
    3. Copy the contents of the game into the container
    4. Point the Lutris container to the exe and done.
    5. Run game

These steps are not precise but the general overview. You can even switch Wine versions if needed without the need to reinstall.

  • Its been a while since I used lightdm but you need to check what greeter you have installed. I used to have a fancy webkit greeter which was animated but I digress.

About the touchpad, the session managers are their own session, so you need to configure it for the session itself. Do check the Arch wiki for configuration hints.

  • I think you have gotten a lot of good answers so my 2 cents are. Install something simple like Ubuntu and try it out. Getting the answers to your questions will not give you the “feel” of using a linux system. Once you start you will begin to have more answers and a lot more questions, specifically in the areas you are interested in.

Also check the Arch wiki, it is really good for any distro because it gives a good reference for configurations.
