satellite is what i would call ‘burst rate’ access. its great for simple back and forth, but time-sensitive bidirectional communication like gaming is not going to work.
old, stupid

There’s not much left to “fix.” Which puts Apple in a tough spot: the iPhone Fold needs to do more than just finally get released.
this entire article pretends like consumers arent already immersed in their respective ecosystems… like an apple household would just switch to android for foldability… ha, no. just no.
the apple people will finally be able to buy an overpriced piece of hardware to match their android-centric friends. it will be very popular among its actual, target audience, apple users.
there are a metric tonne of ai haters. it doesnt matter what protection are put in place; their butt huuuuurts.
a part of the point is, all the data used by the AI is encrypted so it cannot be accessed by anyone except your device.
chatgpt, for example, will incorporate everything you say and do into its own model. Lumo doesnt as your prompts/results are only used if unencrypted by your device.
in systems i’ve seen with severe encryption, the data is only unencrypted by the actual processing engine. otherwise, its encrypted at the field level, during transit and at rest. yes, you have to trust the processing engine isnt doing anything nefarious, but at some level you have to trust something. proton has a solid history of trust despite the one idiot that works there.
youre not smelting your own processors for example. if youre not forging your own processors then youre just not secure!
youll have to be pretty cognizant of the pathing within those commands. also, i noticed i had to run it using sudo to get it to work…
i did just discover an issue… my installs wont let me save the game. it just locks up.
i juuuuust solved for this this week! my kid has been bugging me for awhile.
i spent a weekend trying to get steam to run it… that stupid ea app… lutris…
i gave up on all that and just installed the fitgirl repack under wine. downloaded the sims 4 fitgirl repack, and then followed this very light tutorial
bless your heart. i bet youve learned a lot!
and youre both wrong for assuming the temperature and humidity are the only reasons to want to control this device. It literally generates water as output… god forbid my home automation wants to manage that output.
dont be dictatatin’ my humidity comfort level.
im not sure why all these people jumped from ‘wifi’ to ‘internet’ as if they were the same thing. no one should be exposing their automation devices directly to the interwebs
who said anything about internet connectivity? wifi != internet
welll… devils advocate… i could see the wifi being used so the device can be incorporated into the home automation system [climate control]. its not about dehumidifying, its solely about engaging the dehumidifying as needed.
i found containers helpful… it was simple to spin up a VPN container (gluetun), and push through any services/access/other containers (like pihole) through that. i really appreciated this because if the vpn goes down i’m not suddenly leaking my ip.
what kinda storage ya runnin?
if its a spinning rust drive, it could be failing. ive seen behavior like this after a big data change (like an OS install) on a drive thats on its way out. its spinning its wheels re-reading data.
prolly not the issue if its an SSD
once again billionaires get the ‘volume’ price break which poor people have to subsidize.
awesome… ‘progress’

theres only a few real reasons… lemmy does not have a lot of ‘microblog’ features (50% of the fediverse)… you cant, for example, follow mastodon accounts or have them follow you.
other platforms also add missing lemmy features over the same data. mbin has the equivilent of reddits karma in the form of ‘reputation’
not sure why they keep callin it open source.
how bout you start throwin that around after you make the code available
