YES JELLYFIN! Thank you Plex for enshitifying!
Super kind of you to say! Thank you so much! :-)
Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there’s anything I can do to help make it an even better place. :-)
Can I throw my channels in the mix?
Ozoned Games - games obviously - https://video.firesidefedi.live/c/games
Ozoned Tech - tech obviously - https://video.firesidefedi.live/c/tech
Fireside Fedi - podcast with folks from around the Fediverse so I’ve been putting them under People - https://video.firesidefedi.live/c/show

Am I allowed to throw my hat in the ring? I’m definitely No expert and I’m constantly learning, but I have vods of my live streams, gaming and tech, and I’m running Fireside Fedi a show about talking with different folks around the Fediverse. Let me know if I can post the link. I don’t want to self promote of that’s not what folks are looking for here.
Aldo I would say that we’re still very early in the Fediverse life cycle. Majority of these folks aren’t paid or are a shoestring budget and solo with tiny teams. So if we want to see this experiment survive we have to do more than what we’ve done in the past.
Talk to content creators you enjoy. Let them know you’d like to see their content on the Fediverse. Especially if you’re a patreon member. Create content yourself. The Fediverse will succeed or fail based on our actions.
The internet wasn’t born in a day and a LOT of projects failed, because everyone took the easy centralized way. This time we have to fight for it to remove their claws.
I hope. :-D. I’m no Dev, but I enjoy talking to people and I really believe In the Fediverse so just trying to contribute anyway I can to make it a more welcoming and interesting place.
Calling it Fireside Fedi, where I just talk to folks around the Fediverse and get to know them. I have Gabe Kangas first tomorrow. He’s the lead Dev of Owncast. Created a community !firesidefedi@lemmy.world if you’re interested. Fully Fedi powered. Livestream, Voss, socials, eventually setting up Fedi audio player as well.
Edit: fixed link to community
It gives me hope. We have an opportunity to level the playing field. So much hope that I’m actually starting a show to try to help folks get to know people behind the Fediverse! I truly believe in it and hope we can claw back the internet from the tech giants.
I’m on Debian 12 and I run the flatpak. If it breaks I just install Steam on the desktop until it’s fixed. So they don’t have to be mutually exclusive. But I haven’t had to worry about the flatpak breaking in years.
Assembly is the only REAL gaming language! Look at Roller Coaster Tycoon!
I’d like to know as well actually as I’ve found the same. Maybe I’m just using Organic Maps wrong? But if I am, then am I wrong or is Organic Maps as Magic Earth works so much more seamlessly. Magic Earth website clearly states it uses OSM.
Dang it! Didn’t even think to check … Boo! Organic Maps it is!
Might I recommend Magic Earth?
Organic maps is great, but the search is really finnicky.
Magic Earth has amazing UI, search, it can acts as a dashcam as you travel and that video can pinpoint your place on the map. I’m loving it.
Others already suggested great answers, so I won’t repeat them, but I let my kids play on pbskids.org . tons of fun and educational videos and games for kids if they’re younger.
Owncast Stream whatever you want on your own platform and announce natively to the Fediverse!
IDK why but tons of folks think it’s not feasible as they need million dollar computers. I’ve streamed to 70+ open streams, albeit as a test, on a like $5/month VPS. The key is that the resources needed are how many qualities you’re transcoding, not how many folks are viewing. Yes bandwidth is needed for each viewer, but that’s significantly less than people imagine.
Full transparency I run the !owncast@lemmy.world community, but I’m in no way affiliated with the project. I just love open platforms and open source.
I stream on Owncast and really enjoy it. One of the easiest installations I’ve ever had with software. And despite what lots of folks think you don’t need a million dollars to stream to groups of folks.
Full disclosure I run the !owncast@lemmy.world community and actively promote it on Matrix if anyone is interested or need help. :-D
Their design was more mobile type wherr you don’t minimize windows, you just switch between them or between spaces. I’ve used Gnome forever, including the rough times on Gnome 3.0, and I’ve always used a system tray as well. Never liked leaving clutter everywhere and imo it goes against the minimal design. But thankfully easily extendible.
It was in the description of the video, but it’s a Hetzner VPS with 3 cores, 4GB of ram, 80GB disk, 20TB bandwidth.
Thanks for posting. Just signed up to the list. I have my own GoToSocial, but I’d still love to check out Mozilla’s Mastodon.
I’m not personally. I’d run a VPN for others to connect in. Apparently a lot of folks just expose it to the internet and then enforce logins.
