I’ve heard rumors that they do play well together, but that’s people running it in docker with a “read-only” flag set for the content folder, with metadata saved in the config folder
I’ve used the Jellyfin app to listen to audio books, but for my purposes, it’s easier to run the separate client/server Audiobookshelf.
Dang, I just realized I didn’t explain the setup well enough:
An old laptop runs the Jellyfin server, but the Pi runs the reverse proxy. For some reason, trying to use the reverse proxied address causes problems, but connecting directly to the laptop via IP address and port runs fine.
I tried a Jellyfin server with a pi 2 or 3 and it couldn’t serve more than one client at a time. So i imagine a zero wouldn’t even be able to load the app, much less serve anything :/
My main reason for running my DNS/ad block/nginx through the zero, sometimes the laptop goes down, freezes, or fails to clear the transcodes folder, so having that stuff separate keeps at least part of the network running.
If I trusted the battery tech more, I would use an old phone. But I’ve had one of those white plastic Mac books hooked up to power so long, the battery swelled out of its enclosure :/
Maybe there’s a way to disconnect the battery, or an app that switches off charging, so it drains enough to keep that from happening

Jellyfin and or Pi zero does not like streaming through the video.local address I’ve got setup, so i have to use IP address to get anything without stuttering.

Bought a Blu-ray burner and “archive grade” disks for third location backups.
I made a list of files that is just a text document (3MB!) that sits on the root of the Blu-ray. There’s probably a better way of doing that, but it works for me.

That’s good to hear about local books. The official app can stream fine, but books tend to freeze and skip when playing an mp3…
There’s got to be a better way to do cross posts. When people/bots crosspost, my “All” feed gets cluttered with multiple copies of the same post. Maybe something like a drop-down showing all the instances and communities it’s posted to.

I’m not a shil for them, but I’ve been using a zimaboard as my main “server” with a raspi 4 clone running the *arr suite. 2 SATA connectors and a PCIe slot, I’ve got a daughter card with two more SATA spots, 2HDDs and 2SSDs. I’m powering the whole setup with an old pc power supply.
I can second the Zimaboard. I’ve got two HDDs hooked up to the SATA ports, and grabbed a cheap PCIE SATA daughter card for the SSDs.
I also used a PC power supply to run 12v to the board, and i use the built in SATA power cables. Look up “how to use pc psu as power supply”, it’ll tell you how to get it running without a motherboard.

Yup, as soon as they started the mandatory login bullshit, I bounced. Companies keep adding this “feature” as a way to control your stuff: Doom on Switch, Halo Master Chief edition, nvidia, my fucking mouse(!?); all need a login for no other reason than to add a point of failure/killswitch.
I had a Netgear nighthawk r7800 with ddwrt, which finally crapped out. I went with the TP-link Deco Mesh router as a replacement, and so far it’s working better than the ddwrt router. There are versions with Wi-Fi 6, but i went with the “3 stations for ~$120” and haven’t had any problems with speed, since tht bottlenecks are usually external/cable modem related anyway.
My biggest selling point for the tp-link, it’s much easier to set a local dns, with a fallback to 1.1.1.1, something i could never get to work on ddwrt. So whenever my Jellyfin transcodes bring the Pihole to a screeching halt, it will at least fallback to external dns and not take the whole network with it.
I can also have a base module Ethernet connected to my pc in the office, another hooked up to the cable modem and zimaboard in the livingroom, and eventually, a raspi with a couple of low resource containers (pihole, home assistant, nginx). My goal is to hardwire as many things as i can for speed/signal noise purposes.
I made a Handbrake profile with the settings i wanted, and used the “bulk add” function to add entire shows to the queue.
The media lives on the network, my desktop does the heavy lifting, and saves the resulting video to the hard drive. Then I copy everything back to the network.
It’s not terribly efficient, but I couldn’t get tdarr to work, so this works for me. Going forward, i just have to make sure my sonarr settings are on point
