  • Besides your point but this is the aspect about Gorsuch that I can’t seem to make internally consistent. He almost always rules in terms of native rights – even when, I think, it stretches his supposed originalist guiding principle – yet is more than happy to rule as a conservative on all other times and support “industry” and big business (even when it stretches his supposed originalist guiding principle).

I know that nothing necessitates a person to act logically and most act from emotion, more than anything, but most people, I find, have a relative reason they think they’re being logically consistent but I can’t seem to suss even that out, with regards to him.

  • But, also, who thinks Photoshop is easier‽

As someone who’d learned Photoshop and, eventually, learned GIMP (just because it was easier to run after eventually switching to Linux), trying to argue that Photoshop has an industry stranglehold because it – apparently – is just so much more intuitive than GIMP is absolutely wild. No one I knew learning Photoshop was finding that the UI or layout just magically clicked (or even swiftly got less impenetrable, as time went on).

But I’m not talking about jumping to any buffer, right? I’m talking about jumping to any window configuration.

Incidentally, you can easily still use tabs without taking up any further space. Turning off tab-bar mode will hide the tab bar, at the top, but you can still switch tabs (just without the visual cue).

  • This is the answer.

For whatever complaints one might have about Discord (and they are legion), it does a really good job of packing a bunch of different functionality in one place and with a UI that’s super easy to grasp and understand what does what and how that requires very little foreknowledge of what the thing is or its underlying mechanisms.

If I am completely new and pretty blank of what it is, Discord’s pretty good at me being able to catch up quickly; it’s got a good UI and, following that, functionality for a bunch of things related to communication. And, if I need a quick solution that just gets me going…that’s gonna be pretty painless.

  • I think the weirdest thing I ever saw him do was discuss meeting with Meta when they were working on Threads, get called out for it so he made a post somehow distancing himself from it and saying something along the lines of, “C’mon, guys; I’d never cozy up to Meta,” and then, when Threads started federating, posted a screenshot of being able to see a post from a Threads account from PixelFed and gushing about how incredible this was.

Dude is suspect, for real; glad to see I’m not the only one getting that.

EDIT: just read through what you linked to and wow; that’s so much worse than I originally thought. That’s an inane degree of unprofessionalism.

  • Jerry already caught me up.

To those who haven’t heard it before, it sounds like a way to note that Threads can interope with the Fediverse, now (I can see people who were super excited about Meta joining doing that).

Maybe it being capitalized also made it the first thing my brain jumped to.

In any case, I was mistaken and just hadn’t heard of the term before; just ignore my original comments, basically: they’re wrong.
