I don’t remember why but I switched from k9 to fairemail a long time ago. I think it might have been the branding lol… Shallow I know but I just can’t get passed the logo / name. I might give it another shot once it’s rebranded.
Evolution is a good client that I used for a long time. But I switched to Thunderbird after their recent UI overhaul and I have to say it feels way more thought out and robust than evolution.
Sounds familiar, haha.
I bought a dell xps15 circa 2017 and it is god awful with Linux. I will never buy another dell ever again.
Not to mention they sell proprietary parts and couldn’t sell me a replacement ac adapter for my docking station. They wanted to force me to buy a new docking station instead of just purchasing an AC adapter… Horrible company and horrible compatibility.
Lol. Geez in America this would be radical ideas haha.
Seems nice not to have tax dollars going to private companies at a glance. However, I do not trust the government to get the job done right by themselves either in many cases.
So if I have been using arch with infected xz library to connect to a Debian LTS server, am I compromised?
So the answer is no, you didn’t try another OS on the same hardware. Likely could be hardware issue.
Have you tried another OS on the same hardware to rule out hardware issues?
Ubuntu, and I’ve been using it for 10 years without trying anything else until this week, I use arch now.
I use DD-WRT, it dies everything I need. Is Open-WRT better?
Did you choose the right partition?
Do you still see your Mac partition when you do fdisk -l
?
I just use gocryptfs, I know it has some security limitations but those don’t really bother me.
Dang that’s scary. The user would need ssh access to the container for this to work, right?
Yeah… I really don’t see the motives to do this either. Possibly:
I guess if you’re traveling and you have to bring 2 laptops.
Or you can’t afford a PC with the same specs as your work laptop.
Both of those situations don’t warrant booting work laptop to external personal HD though.
Nice, totally buying this for my wife.
Fail2ban works if they don’t have infinite IP addresses
Well it definitely checks for updates, and it has services for finding nas for dummies that use outside communications. My router policy doesn’t allow it to talk to the outside, but certain docker containers hosted on the nas can access internet via raspberry pi proxy
Occasionally I let it update then close it off again.
Just dive in head first. You will likely find things you miss about windows but if you give Linux a fair chance I promise you in the end it pays off.
My switch was first a dual boot but I quickly realized I was rarely booting into windows and eventually just formatted the drive to purge all Microsoft from my system.
These days even games only built for windows run just finez if not better than Linux.
LibreOffice is great alternative to MSOffice and most other windows software will run with some form of wine (wine is not a windows emulator).
Freedom isn’t free. But it sure as heck is worth the extra steps to get there.
Linux Mint is a great starter Distro.
