Get a low-power GPU for 50 $ on ebay. Still faster than your poor iGPU at converting your videos to a more recent format with 1/3 the space requirements.
Also, does the cat-funny video need to be in 4k? yt-dlp -F to list and -f to choose (accepts ‘+’ combinations).
It’s not as bad as people are saying. Storage has gotten more expensive, but: 1h of YouTube at 1080p is around 3GB. Storage is currently sitting at 25-30€/TB. That allows you to save 330h of YouTube content, which is a lot.
and you won’t have a backup when it suddenly fails. if it starts reporting bad blocks, you may not even have enough time to copy everything off of it before it fails. you should at least run something that notifies you if it starts to fail, if you don’t yet have it.
at 10 TB read speeds are still roughly at most 120 MB/s, which means roughly a full day of continuous copying. sometimes drives fail faster under that stress.
I agree on principle, but on what storage? Who’s with me in planning a data center heist?

You son of a bitch, I’m in
I recently bought a used 10tb hard drive for $190.
It’s decently affordable, look it up.

all I want to say, is be careful.
Having a backup is always essential, especially for things that cannot simply be redownloaded.
Currently, I have irrecoverable info stored elsewhere (outside my home), and I plan on getting a second 10tb drive just to have a full copy.
