As someone whos grew up on iPhones this feels reasonable for a high end product…

Reasonable is $900. Just because apple made a $2000 phone doesn’t mean everyone does.

I had a Nexus 4 for $300 way back when, and that was mighty premium enough. We’re all getting screwed and there is no savior. The water has been boiling for over a decade.

My current phone cost $500 and it’s more than powerful & capable enough. Android sucks to use but other than that I have no idea why anyone would get anything more expensive unless they need some really good camera.

Samsung does too, the aim is office workers in European + USA, which gets a new phone sponsored every few years

Is it? It costs more than any (bar-style) iPhone. This is priced less than the Oppo X9 Ultra and Vivo X300 Ultra, similarly to the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra and the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and priced more than the Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max and Google Pixel 11 Pro XL –the problem is the subsect of people who are happy paying this price and cares about privacy are abysmally minute.

This is the normal cost of a new phone no? If I were buying an Iphone or a samsung i’d expect to pay around the same price.

When I bought my just-barely-not-current-gen ipad pro, it was 1100€.

This phone is more than 60% more expensive than that. I can’t imagine buying a mobile device that costs this much

My phone actually is a Samsung and was around €400. It works fine, and does all things I want my phone to do without any issues. The only improvement I’d care even marginally about would be a better set of cameras, but until they’d actually be on par with my “real” camera that’s not something I’m willing to pay for.

Yeah the current high end Samsung galaxy ultra is about the same price in Australia.

This is marginally more expensive than flagship phones, but it’s not clear how performance will compare.

I wonder how much of this higher price point is due to the lack of partnerships with companies like Google who will harvest information about you through the device.
